Residents across several areas of San Luis Obispo County have lost power on Tuesday, a result of both high winds and preemptive power cuts by PG&E.
Hundreds or more residents have lost power in the Templeton and Cambria areas as a result of the weather conditions. There is also a power outage along Highway 46 between Templeton and Cambria, according to PG&E.
Meanwhile, PG&E has cut put power to the areas of Huasna, Suey and Twitchell Reservoir in South County, according to the SLO County Office of Emergency Services. A PG&E map shows intentional outages are in effect in rural Arroyo Grande and rural Nipomo, as well. ....

Gusty winds and dry conditions caused PG&E to preemptively cut power to hundreds of households in rural southern San Luis Obispo County and Santa Maria on Jan. 19 part of the utility’s first wave of Public Safety Power Shutoffs in 2021.
The shutoff, which spans seven Central California counties, is impacting 462 customers around Huasna, Suey, Twitchell Reservoir, and Tepusquet sparsely populated areas east of Arroyo Grande, Nipomo, and Santa Maria.

UPDATE (10:38 a.m.): PG&E says 462 customers are impacted.

ORIGINAL STORY: Power Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) outages were impacting hundreds of PG&E customers in San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara counties Tuesday morning.
As of 9:23 a.m., PG&E said 441 customers on the Central Coast were impacted by the five PSPS-related outages.
The company previously warned of possibly outages between Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening as strong, damaging winds are expected in the area.
In the Cambria area, another 50 customers were without power off Highway 46, but PG&E says this was not a planned outage and is possibly wind-related. ....

Winter's first storm soaks Santa Barbara County | Local News

The first solid storm of the 2020-21 winter season brought Santa Barbara County unusual southwesterly gale-force winds and the first significant rainfall since March, soaking a parched land still struggling under drought conditions.
Officials said the rainfall will have little impact on the countyâs major reservoirs, but the moisture will reduce the danger of wildfire in a county where as recently as Dec. 6 the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for extreme wildfire danger.
Capt. Daniel Bertucelli, spokesman for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, said itâs hard to say exactly how many ticks down the risk chart the rain will take the countyâs fire danger. ....
