The thread of wildfire is not over everywhere. Good evening. Pg e started checking their equipment today but high winds kept them from reaching many areas. Here are the latest numbers, they have cut power to 345,000 customers in Northern California but by 6 pm they restored power to more than 100,000 of those customers. They hope to have everybodys power back on by tomorrow night. The feeling among many is the bay area dodged a bullet here. Reporter it is a big relief, tonight there was a update, a say in some places the wind gusts were 89 Miles Per Hour and the inspectors did find places where trees blew into power lines and they say they could have sparked fires. Moonlight on monday night was the only bright spot in parts of lafayette. We do not have a generator, we were modestly prepared. Reporter some residents will be spending another night in the dark as pg e tries to bring grades back online safely after the shut off. All day traffic lights were not operating and businesses had
The thing to look at his what is going on on mount st. Helena today. The hour before it reported at 42 Miles Per Hour, virtually half the wind speed tonight compared to last night. It seems like good news to me. It is still windy, the red flag warning is still there but the wind is not as bad. We look at the wind model that tells you everything, after midnight things cool off and you see at 2 am they start to fire up, it is not as aggressive on the central and south bay as it was last night. Mostly in the Northeast Quadrant and by 9 am it is gone. Some really positive news, we are not out of the woods on this thing but if we can get through noon tomorrow with what we are seeing outside now with some of the current wind speeds i am feeling good. Hopefully it will stay that way. When i come back we will look at the forecast that includes less wind and cool overnight lows. Thousands of customers are facing another night of outages as part of the pg e Public Safety power shutoffs. Crews ar
The Oakland Fire Department says two structures and a brush caught fire. Crews from hayward fire, Alameda County fire and fremont fire were all called to the scene. Eight people were displaced by the fire for people in the montclair hills have been hit by the pg e Public Safety power shutoff. Lets bring in meteorologist Rosemary Orozco as the intense winds that sparked the power shutoffs have passed. There is still a red flag warning in effect. Where do you start . The red flag warning in the far east bay hills that includes montclair and over the north bay hills. Not because it is incredibly dry out there. And still a little bit breezy. Giving you a look at the conditions you have a northeast wind that continues to keep dry conditions. We are seeing some improvement but in any event, we are looking at the red flag warning with relative humidity reporting 16 in some areas. And we are looking at this to continue until 5 00 this afternoon. More on this in the conditions you can expect co
Dangerous fire conditions and pg e power shut offs. A repeat performance of something they have done several times before. But it never gets easier. The winds could be the worst we have seen so far this fire season and expected to move from north to south. Good evening. Thank you for joining us. We have Team Coverage with reporters fanned out across the north bay. We begin with meteorologist. This is serious. Very serious. The conditions were going to be facing tonight are are very similar to the conditions that we faced that started the massive fires over the last few years. Also right around this time of the year. Now the coast and lower elevations the red flag warning will start tonight at 8 00. In the north bay mountains it already started and continued and extended until 5 00 p. M. Tuesday. Gusty winds up to 70 Miles Per Hour. Desert bone dry conditions. With humidity dropping to Single Digits. Its not too bad rite now. High elevations winds are picking up. I i want to show you wh
Reporter Paul Lowenthal is the assistant fire marshal at the fire house. They have been positioned so if a fire does break out, they can quickly respond in order to keep the fires from spreading. But he says the big concern is the wind going to the property below and also reaching in the areas. We have three years of regrowth, so there is a lot of seasonal grasses and brush that is regrown, and that area does remain a concern for us. Reporter according to lowenthal, because pg e have reduced the amount of customers who will have their power cut, it means more energized lines which can pose a risk. Part of our planning is knowing that our city will remain energized, so that has us on high alert. There is the potential that we could have fires as a result of high power lines. They spent the week clearing their house, garage and attic. They say its going to be a tough season. Were exhausted. Today i spent more time cutting down more grasses, raking up more leaves. Its just its overwhelmin
