TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) - The city of Trumann asks residents to conserve water after use in the town tripled since the winter storm.
Mayor Barbara Lewallen says they’re in no danger of running out of water. They hope to lift the water conservation notice by the end of the week.
In February, the city typically produces an average of 500,000 gallons a day, but this month, it’s over 1.40 million gallons.
The main culprits are burst pipes and water leaks. Trumann Water Works is shutting off lines as customers report leaks. ....

On February 24, 1996, Cuban fighter jets shot down two planes flown by the Miami-based anti-Castro exile group Brothers to the Rescue. It was the end result of a provocation calculated to induce US economic, political and military retaliation against Cuba.
The Clinton administration, the Republican Party and the big-business media had all presented the aerial confrontation over the Straits of Florida as an illegal and unprovoked act of “cold-blooded murder” and aggression. They cited international statutes prohibiting the use of military force against civil aircraft and touted the supposedly humanitarian mission of Brothers to the Rescue. The CIA insisted that Jose Basulto pilot of the aircraft which escaped and the other pilots were not paid US intelligence agents. ....

TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) - Temperatures are dangerous, and road conditions are rough in Poinsett County. Several people at the Stepping Stone Homeless Center say the warming center saved their life.
The Poinsett County Sherriff Department responded to one rollover on Highway 163 at Raceway Road. Sheriff Kevin Molder says they’ve responded to several people in ditches and those who have slid off the road.
Trumann Mayor Barbara Lewallen says they have two tractors that act as snowplows, but the snow is falling faster than they can keep up. Crews are planning on removing the snow once it stops falling. ....

Truman VA holds walk-in vaccination clinic in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY – Truman VA’s outpatient clinic held a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic Saturday.
This vaccination clinic was the second walk-in event Truman VA has hosted. Giving veterans the option to get vaccinated without an appointment is part of Truman VA’s efforts to increase the number of enrolled and eligible veterans.
The age requirement for the clinic was lowered from 65 to 55. Anyone receiving VA health care who met this age requirement was able to receive a vaccine.
“I think the fact that we’ve lowered the age limit is important,” Truman VA Public Affairs Officer Jeff Hoelscher, said. “That opens up a lot more veterans to be able to receive that vaccine.” ....
