TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) - Some Trumann residents say they have lost faith in their city officials for letting a building code slip, but other residents say the code violation isn’t that big of a deal.
The city violated a building code allowing a private home to build a 900-square-foot accessory building, 100-square-feet over the limit and in direct violation of Trumann’s Zoning Code.
Section 10.01 C of the zoning code states, “accessory buildings cannot exceed 800 square feet without a conditional use permit” and a public hearing where neighbors and concerned citizens can voice their opinions, something Mayor Barbara Lewallen admitted the city failed to do at the Apr. 20th city council meeting. ....

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - In addition to fighting fires, the Trumann Fire Department has earned a rare license to save lives.
The Arkansas Department of Health recently awarded the TFD its Advanced Response Service EMS Service license.

According to a Thursday news release shared on social media, only 10 such services exist in the state.
What makes it even rarer, Trumann is one of just five services that are exclusively fire department based, with no ambulances. ....

TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) - The city of Trumann asks residents to conserve water after use in the town tripled since the winter storm.
Mayor Barbara Lewallen says they’re in no danger of running out of water. They hope to lift the water conservation notice by the end of the week.
In February, the city typically produces an average of 500,000 gallons a day, but this month, it’s over 1.40 million gallons.
The main culprits are burst pipes and water leaks. Trumann Water Works is shutting off lines as customers report leaks. ....

TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) - Temperatures are dangerous, and road conditions are rough in Poinsett County. Several people at the Stepping Stone Homeless Center say the warming center saved their life.
The Poinsett County Sherriff Department responded to one rollover on Highway 163 at Raceway Road. Sheriff Kevin Molder says they’ve responded to several people in ditches and those who have slid off the road.
Trumann Mayor Barbara Lewallen says they have two tractors that act as snowplows, but the snow is falling faster than they can keep up. Crews are planning on removing the snow once it stops falling. ....
