Laughing your head off may be a throwaway line we use these days, but its macabre origins go back in time to one of the most notorious beheadings of 18th century Britain. Simon Fraser, the 11th Lord Lovat, Chief of the Scottish Highlands Fraser clan, was to be beheaded. A tragic accident in the crowd of people who watched the gruesome act began the saying we now use today.

Jesse James spent his days as a teenage Confederate guerilla in the US Civil War before gaining his most considerable notoriety in history as an outlaw. He was dead, assassinated by the age of 34. A narrative emerged that Jesse was a Robin Hood figure who robbed the rich. That much is true, but he certainly never gave to the poor, and he’s anything but a hero.
