The senate also conducted internal elections for the speaker of the senate and Appointments Board chair.Â
Sen. Christine Trinh won a narrow election and will serve as the speaker of the senate for the 2021-22 administration. Trinh said in a nomination speech that she will work with senators on legislation and help them amplify their voices.Â
âAs speaker, I would make it my mission not only to work with senators on legislation but to amplify their voice and ensure their presence and time in ASUN is worthwhile,â Trinh said.Â
Sen. Zoe Keese won election to be Appointments Board chair.Â
ASUN will allocate up to $4,250 from the Green Fund budget to the Student Organic Farm, after passing Government Bill 1.Â
The Association of Students of the University of Nebraska 2021-22 senate will meet for its first full meeting Wednesday in what will also be the final meeting of the 2020-21 academic year.Â
President Batool Ibrahim, internal Vice President Taylor Jarvis and external Vice President Patrick Baker will all give their first executive reports.Â
Government Bill 1 will be presented. If this bill passes, ASUN will allocate up to $4250 from the Green Fund budget to the Student Organic Farm.
Additionally, the bill would also require the leaders of the farm to give a report to the senate body following the completion of the project.Â
Joined together near the Broyhill Fountain, students urged University of Nebraska administrators to commit to full divestment.
Aila Ganic and Madison Whitney, Sustain UNLâs president and vice president, respectively, and Divest NU organizers, presented three demands to the university.
These include a call on the NU Board of Regents to commit to full divestment of its controlled funds by its August meeting, pass a resolution calling on the NU Foundation to fully divest by the end of the year and create a university-wide working group â that would include students â dedicated to the implementation of divestment and reinvestment in clean energy.
