Shirkey-tied nonprofit gives $550,000 to Unlock Michigan campaign
Lansing A nonprofit organization tied to Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey gave $550,000 to the campaign to repeal a Michigan law that allowed Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to issue unilateral executive orders to combat COVID-19.
Michigan! My Michigan!, a social welfare organization that formed in August 2018 and doesn t have to disclose its donors, is now the second largest funder of Unlock Michigan, the petition campaign to repeal the Emergency Powers of the Governor Act, according to a fundraising report due Monday.

Man jailed for using stake to threaten people in home attack

A man has pleaded a magistrate to reconsider his offer after he was sentenced to jail time for using a wooden stake to cause fear near a Walkervale home on Friday night.
Caine Nicholas Wilshire pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday to one count of going armed so as to cause fear and wilful damage.
He appeared in the courtroom via videolink from the Bundaberg Watch House, where he spent the weekend in custody after the incident.
The court heard police were called to Maynard St on Friday night after they received reports of an armed person threatening people living in a home in the area. ....

Woman fined after trying to contest covid infringement

A mum has been slapped with a fine after she chose to take her covid breach infringement to court.
Annalyce J Elizabeth Truswell pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday to one charge of failing to comply with a Covid-19 public health direction.
On April 8 last year Truswell contacted police after 6pm to report her partner and a friend were missing at Mt Walsh National Park near Biggenden.
Police attended and found Truswell in a car as well as three other people, including the reported missing people who had been found.
The court heard Truswell had travelled 129km from her home address at Maryborough in breach of the covid restrictions of non-essential travel. ....

I found an old photo that included memories of my early days in Lake Charles. Some of you may not know that when I first moved here, I programmed the former V107.5. The station had a format that is similar to my new station, Magic 92.1.
We had the Throwbacks before the term was popular, and I used to host a show called The Backyard Blues party. This is where I played blues and southern soul, and had the pleasure of interviewing artists like Sir Charles Jones, Bobby Rush, and Marvin Sease, who are pictured here in this photo. Also in this photo is former businessman and entrepreneur, Lawrence Gumbeaux Morrow, friend and former coworker, Craig Ryan, who was the man in the community, and of course, the Midday Diva Gina Cook. ....
