OGLESBY – The Oglesby Police Department is reminding residents to keep their vehicle and garages locked after attempted burglaries over the weekend. According to police, the area of the reported burglaries occurred between West 1st and 2nd Street as well as East 1st and 2nd street on Saturday night. Police will be conducting extra patrols of the area but want to remind everyone to keep their homes, garages, and cars locked at all times. If anyone has any video surveillance throughout that area please contact the Oglesby Police Department.

OGLESBY – Officer Randy Slimko Leininger was sworn in Monday night as the newest member of the Oglesby Police Department. Commissioner of Public Property, Parks, Ambulance, Fire, Human Resources Carrie Lijewski gave the oath of office to Leininger in front of the Mayor and the Oglesby City Council. Commissioner Lijewski also announced that the Oglesby Police Department has earned a Federal Use of Force certification from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. The department has 4 full-time patrol officers and 10 part-time officers.

OGLESBY – Oglesby police officers exchanged gunfire with a suspect Tuesday after an investigation of an RV that was parked at Illinois Valley Community College around 8 PM. The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office say that 35-year-old Peter Douglas Bergsma, possibly from Michigan, allegedly pulled a semi-automatic pistol after he exited the RV and began firing. Officers returned fire and took cover, however the suspect reportedly drove off in an Oglesby police car and left the campus. The vehicle was located by responding law enforcement agencies in a residential area abandoned with a damaged tire and busted windows due to gunfire. Bergsma was spotted on foot near the Shippingsport Bridge and stopped when told to by officers. He was taken to IVCH with a head wound described as being a graze injury from a bullet. LaSalle County State’s Attorney Todd Martin said charges are pending, and that multiple agencies are involved in the investigation.

OGLESBY – Three individuals are facing drug charges after a Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team investigation on Tuesday. According to Tri-Dent, they were called to the 400 block of Florence St in Oglesby after alleged drug activity during an Illinois Department of Corrections Parole compliance check. Tri-Dent, IDOC Parole and Oglesby Police allegedly located about one gram of purported heroin, packaging material and drug paraphernalia at that location. Taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver were 27-year-old Joshua D. Bostic, 27-year-old Jeremy R. Lannen and 30-year-old Amanda J. Roberson. They were taken to the LaSalle County Jail facing Class 2 Felony charges with bonds yet to be set.
