As a corporate entity, the Central of Georgia Railway “lived” for nearly 150 years. It connected much of its home state, parts of Alabama, and reached Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Pieces of the railroad survive as part of Norfolk Southern. Its corporate name also remains, although only on paper.
Built to help export King Cotton
Since its founding in 1732, Savannah’s commercial activity was focused at its port. Cotton was shipped down the Savannah River from Augusta to be exported overseas. Sometimes weather radar picks up things that aren’t weather.
That happened Tuesday morning, near Warner Robins. The radar showed a pretty strong storm with heavy rainfall, maybe even small hail.
But it was not a storm. It was probably birds – a lot of birds.
The Atlanta office of the National Weather Service shared it in a Tuesday morning Tweet.
This morning, near Warner Robins, a flock of birds took off that was so big & dense it registered up to 54 dBZ on the KJGX radar! These values are comparable to some pretty heavy rainfall or even small hail; It was so strong it tricked KJGX into rainfall accumulation mode! #gawxpic.twitter.com/xcBDKCZZ8R ....
