MACON, Ga. Music notes will soon be floating down a mural of the Ocmulgee River in front of the Rookery on Cherry Street in downtown Macon, and you can help paint them!
They won t be just any music notes, though. They ll be from the chorus of Little Richard s song Southern Child, which was covered by the band Blackberry Smoke at Capricorn Sound Studios in 2020 after his death. ....

WINDSOR TERRACE Anthropologist Tom Riley did not understand why his grandmother, in the mid 1950s, resisted an interview with a priest working on a biography of the family’s famous ancestor, Bishop James Augustine Healy.
Bishop Healy the eldest brother of Riley’s great-grandmother, Martha was born into slavery in Jones County, Georgia. He moved north for education as a young boy and later became a priest. In 1875 he was consecrated as the second bishop for the Diocese of Portland, Maine. ....

When Congress agreed to enlarge the boundaries of the former Ocmulgee National Monument the national park designation was only part of the plan.
For the next few years, the National Park Service will study whether to include about 50 river miles in Bibb, Twiggs, Houston, Bleckley and Pulaski counties. ....

MACON, Ga. The Macon Water Authority is dealing with two major recent spills from a local company. Between January 17- 20th and January 24th, the Macon Water Authority reported major spills from Graphic Packaging International (GPI).
It is primarily waste cellulose fiber from their process, Executive Vice President of Field Operations for the Water Authority Ray Shell said.
According to documents sent into our newsroom, 104.4 million gallons of effluent discharged into the Ocmulgee River from the Rocky Creek Water Reclamation Facility off Mead Road. Ray Shell with the Water Authority says the water is still safe to use. ....
