For good health, replace other cooking oils with mustard oil

For good health, replace other cooking oils with mustard oil
According to a study, the very common sarson ka tel could be the best weapon against inflammatory diseases, such as Covid-19. From keeping your heart healthy to fostering weight loss, know how it can be your key to long life.
New Delhi: If you want to achieve good health amid the pandemic, choosing the right oil should be the foremost step as Covid-19 is an inflammatory disease and we should, therefore, focus more on anti-inflammatory diets and the right cooking oil, top health experts have said.
Eminent physician and cardiologist and Past President of the Indian Medical Association K.K. Aggarwal is favourably inclined towards cold-pressed mustard oil not only because it is rich in Monounsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFA), it also contains large amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids and alpha-linolenic acid which are proven to decrease oxidative stress and inflammation. ....

Invasive weed may help treat some human diseases, researchers find

Andropogon virginicus
(A) Bud stage; (B) Flowering stage; (C) Spikelets
Native to the southeastern United States, a weedy grass has spread northward to Canada and also made its way to Australia and Japan. Andropogon virginicus grows densely packed and up to seven feet tall, disrupting growth patterns of other plants and competing for resources. When burned, it grows back stronger. There is no way to effectively remove the weed once it has invaded. But there might be a way to use it to human advantage.
An international team of researchers has found that A. virginicus extracts appear to be effective against several human diseases, including diabetes and cancer. The results were published on Dec. 31, 2020, in a special issue of Plants, titled “Biological Activities of Plant Extracts.” ....

Discovery offers a precise route to treat inflammation associated with neuropathic pain

Discovery offers a precise route to treat inflammation associated with neuropathic pain
One of the hallmarks of chronic pain is inflammation, and scientists at the UNC School of Medicine have discovered that anti-inflammatory cells called MRC1
+ macrophages are dysfunctional in an animal model of neuropathic pain. Returning these cells to their normal state could offer a route to treating debilitating pain caused by nerve damage or a malfunctioning nervous system.
The researchers, who published their work in
Neuron, found that stimulating the expression of an anti-inflammatory protein called CD163 reduced signs of neuroinflammation in the spinal cord of mice with neuropathic pain. ....

Study: Highly efficient and balanced immune response key to avoiding COVID-19 symptoms

Study: Highly efficient and balanced immune response key to avoiding COVID-19 symptoms
By analyzing blood samples from individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2, researchers in Singapore have begun to unpack the different responses by the body s T cells that determine whether or not an individual develops COVID-19. The study, published today in the
Journal of Experimental Medicine (
JEM), suggests that clearing the virus without developing symptoms requires T cells to mount an efficient immune response that produces a careful balance of pro- and anti-inflammatory molecules.
Many people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus do not develop any symptoms, and the infection is cleared by both antibodies and T cells that specifically recognize the virus. In some cases, however, this protective immune response can trigger excessive inflammation that damages tissues and causes many of the symptoms associated with COVID-19. ....
