The “extreme majority” of Australians will be choosing to celebrate Australia Day on January 26, says Sky News host Paul Murray.
Mr Murray said according to a poll from the Institute of Public Affairs, 62 per cent of Australians support Australia Day being on January 26 – down from 75 per cent in 2019 but “still the extreme majority of Australians”.
“Why are these polls to be ignored but the minority, ten per cent of the country – Greens’ view – that January 26 is invasion day is repeated over and over and over again in the media?” ....
Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President Trent Twomey says Australia s healthcare system is “stuffed” and needs reform.
Mr Twomey’s remarks come as the Albanese government is considering an overhauled funding system for Medicare in a bid to open up care options to international health professionals.
“What we’re saying is that our profession, the pharmacy profession in Australia, can and should do more to help address the unmet needs of Australians,” he told Sky News Australia.
“There are many common-sense reforms that can be done in our healthcare system that cost no money, and we’re already spending billions of dollars on our primary healthcare systems, so spending billions of dollars more is not going to solve the problem.
Health Minister Mark Butler says bulk billing has been under pressure over recent years.
“About two-thirds of Australians are still getting bulk bill service, but about a third of Australians are paying gap fees,” Mr Butler said during a media conference on Monday.
“And that one-third of Australians – a group that frankly appears to be growing and growing relatively quickly – are paying higher and higher gap fees because of that financial pressure on general practicing particular.
“That has been a big focus obviously of the discussions of the strengthening Medicare taskforce.” ....
