There is no evidence Russian President Vladimir Putin has ambitions to attack other European nations beyond Ukraine, says The Australian’s Washington Correspondent Adam Creighton.

Government considering Medicare funding overhaul

The federal government is considering an overhauled funding system for Medicare in a bid to open up care options to international health professionals.

Health Minister Mark Butler says the current model of subsidising individual GP visits is no longer fit for purpose.

The changes have received wide support from medical groups, who say access to universal healthcare in Australia is threatened by growing gap fees.

Mr Butler says the changes are also needed to address other issues within Medicare, such as doctor shortages, overhead costs and chronic disease treatments. ....

Opposing Australia Day is 'pathetic virtue signalling'

Sky News host Chris Kenny has slammed the “pathetic virtue signalling” by woke people opposing Australia Day.

He said these people are protesting against the “very concept of Australia”.

“It shows, in my view, that our country is intent on dumbing itself down, that a country like ours has been so lucky that we don t even understand our own strengths, our own history, or even our own luck,” he said. ....

Not much 'can be done' following China's iron ore deal with Guinea

GT Communications’ Gemma Tognini says not much “can be done” following China’s signing of a landmark deal with Guinea for iron ore.

“But the fact that this is now being reported in the way that it was, today I think it was the AFR,” she told Sky News host Cory Bernadi.

“It’s got to be cause for concern, and again it plays into the whole climate conversation around Australia’s role in the global climate discussion.

“China is doing what China will want to do, they’re not going to get iron ore from us, they’re going to get it cheaper and from other sources and no doubt in greater quantity.” ....
