Europe's 'moderated' winter affects global energy market

Europe’s “moderated” winter has caused the global energy market to “settle down a bit” amid Australia’s current energy price crisis, Lead Writer of The Australian Graham Lloyd says.

“We’ve started the new year pretty much where we left off last year – with a bit of confusion and uncertainty in the energy markets,” Mr Lloyd told Sky News Australia.

Qantas flight to Sydney turns back to Fiji after fumes detected

A Qantas flight on its way to Sydney has turned back to Fiji after fumes were detected in the cabin.

Initial investigations suggest the fumes are related to an oven on the aircraft with engineers to now assess the aircraft in Nadi after it landed safely last night.

Passengers have been accommodated by Qantas ahead of their new flight. ....

'Absolute carnage' in Alice Springs is 'heart-breaking'

Alice Springs Mayor Matt Paterson says the “absolute carnage” taking place in his town is heart-breaking as the crime situation ramps up.

He said all crime statistics are going the “wrong direction”, with house and commercial break-ins rising as well as domestic violence calls.

“We got told that more policing down here is not sustainable for Alice Springs, well the level of crime and anti-social behaviour here is not sustainable for Alice Springs to continue either,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray. ....
