PM should 'spend more time' in Central Australia: Dutton

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says he hopes Prime Minister Anthony Albanese goes back to Central Australia to “spend more meaningful time” after his visit to see the Alice Springs crime crisis on Tuesday.

“He should be out talking to mothers and grandmothers who are living this every day,” Mr Dutton said in a media conference on Thursday.

“It’s a huge issue to deal with – I offered to go up there with the Prime Minister, offered to provide bipartisan support to him in October.

“This is a first step by the Prime Minister but there’s a lot of work to do.” ....

Living in Australia is winning the 'lottery of life'

Sky News host Peta Credlin says living in Australia is winning the lottery of life and no “angry, historically ignorant activist” can change that.

“More than a quarter of our current Australian population was born overseas, by far the biggest percentage of any country anywhere,” she said.

“No one made them come to Australia, they came because they wanted to join our country, join Team Australia.” ....

Greens party room expected to meet next week and 'endorse the Voice'

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the Greens party room is expected to meet next week and endorse the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

“The Greens agreed to a request from their own First Nations spokeswoman Lidia Thorpe yesterday that she get a conscience vote on this because she opposes the Voice and wants a treaty instead,” Mr Clennell said.

Mr Clennell said he understand Ms Thorpe will “come under pressure” at the party room meeting next week to “stand down” from her role as the Greens’ First Nations spokeswoman.

“That would seem rather logical because how could you hold that portfolio when you oppose the party’s position on the Voice,” he said.

“Thorpe may even go of her own avail.” ....
