Domestic violence victims now entitled to paid leave

People suffering from domestic and family violence will now be entitled to paid leave in order to escape dangerous situations.

Those impacted will be able to access 10 days of leave at their full rate of pay – whether they be full, part-time or casual workers.

The changes will come into force from tomorrow for at least seven million employees in large and medium businesses, and small business employees can access the scheme from August 1. ....

Australia to increase presence in Pacific with Solomon Islands investments

Australia will increase its presence in the Pacific with the announcement of a new $65 million high commission in the Solomon Islands and $120 million logistics hub.

The island nation has become a key strategic presence in the region after China opened an embassy in Honiara in 2020.

The investment will help Australia and other western nations try to compete with China s growing influence in the Pacific.
