Queensland man dies after being bitten by snake

A man in his 60s has died after he was bitten by a snake in Queensland.

Paramedics were called to a home in the Lockyer Valley yesterday morning but when they arrived the man was already dead.

The species of snake has not yet been confirmed but the caller indicated it was an eastern brown snake.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner. ....

Official campaign against Indigenous Voice to be launched

A formal campaign against the Indigenous Voice to Parliament will be launched today.

A committee comprised of former and current MPs and Indigenous figures will argue enshrining a Voice to Parliament will negatively influence Australia s system of democracy.

The campaign titled Recognise a Better Way will propose a preamble to the Constitution and a new parliamentary committee focused on the rights of native title holders under existing legislation.

President Biden joins the Nichols family and calls to protest 'peacefully'

White House Correspondent and Washington Examiner Christian Datoc says President Biden put out a statement joining the Nichols family and urging people to protest but to do it “peacefully”.

“This all feels quite similar to the George Floyd and Breanna Taylor protests that of course took place during coronavirus when widespread violence and destruction were hand in hand with a lot of these protests,” Mr Datoc told Sky News Australia.

"Pushing back on these police killings of black Americans in particular, it s sad we re still dealing with this, but it s ugly sides of American history that the country is grappling with.” ....

Australia sending Bushmaster vehicles to Ukraine

The Prime Minister has inspected Bushmaster vehicles which Australia is sending to Ukraine amid global calls for more tanks to fight Russia.

Ukraine has been requesting more assistance from Australia as it approaches one year since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, “We have committed to providing 90 Bushmasters to Ukraine and there on the ground making difference each and every day to the defence of that Nation.” ....

Guide Dogs Australia unveil first litter of 2023

Guide Dogs Australia has unveiled its newest generation of seeing-eye dogs.

The two four-week-old boys and four girls are bound for the homes of volunteer puppy raisers before their formal training begins.

Staff members got to name them - coming up with Beau, Rocket, Soda, Honey, Joyce and Jina. ....
