ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 19/24 Florida State swimming and diving teams opened competition at the Georgia Invite on Thursday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. “I thought we had a good first day,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We had season and career-best swims across the board. We were much better at night, so tomorrow we’ll look to adjust and get it done in the morning.” Peter Varjasi paced the 19th-ranked Noles, swimming in five races. Varjasi won silver in the 200 IM behind a four-second drop, touching at 1:43.17 (NCAA B), which was under the 2022 NCAA invited time. Varjasi qualified third for the final at 1:44.80 in prelims. His swim was the second fastest in FSU history behind Pavel Sankovich’s school record (1:41.92) which was set back in 2014. Varjasi started the night by leading off the 200 free relay, splitting 19.43 and helping FSU finish sixth with a team of Mason Herbet, Blake Moran, and Ian Cooper at 1:17.84. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 21/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams fell to No. 7/15 Georgia at the Morcom Aquatics Center on Saturday. The men (1-1) dropped its contest 121-179 and the women (3-1) fell 123-176. “We did some great things today,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We came up short, but Georgia is a very good team. We have a lot to be proud of and this will be something we can build on this season.” Edith Jernstedt lowered her own Morcom Aquatics Center pool record in the 200 fly, controlling the race for the win at 1:58.06. Jernstedt originally set the mark back in January (1:58.64). She later contributed a win in the 100 fly, touching at 53.79. Peter Varjasi also bested his pool record in the 100 free, touching at 43.60, eclipsing his standard of 43.62 that was set back on Nov. 14, 2020.
