Capitola Police are searching for the person who killed Debra Town, 70, in a hit and run accident on Bay Ave. and Crossroads Loop. The tragedy has reignited calls by neighbors to have better traffic safety measures at a nearby busy intersection that's frequented by senior pedestrians.
A council vote of approval would end a process that began late last year. Stakeholder meetings kicked off in November 2022, followed by two community workshops, an online survey and several rounds of review and feedback from the City Council, Planning Commission and California Department of Housing and Community Development.
"It feels like spirits are rising. We're looking into the future, we're not staying stuck in that moment," said Assemblymember Dawn Addis. "But also as they are able to do some of these renovations, that'll be preparing them for future storms."
De Serpa, 56, brings a background in social services and years of experience as a public official to the much-anticipated race. She is currently the social services manager at the Salinas Valley Health Center and has represented the communities of Corralitos and more than half of Aptos on the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees since 2010.
