Uttar Pradesh: Stir over land rates gets Morcha push | Noida News

GHAZIABAD: Just 30km from UP Gate, a group of farmers from several villages has been protesting against the government for the past four and a half years over land compensation.
On Saturday, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni visited the protest in Loni’s Mandola village and backed the protesters. The farm agitation at the Delhi borders has been going on for the last seven months and has generated nationwide debate. But here, farmers from six villages have been agitating over enhanced compensation for the past four and a half years, but to no avail, said Neeraj Tyagi, a representative of the Mandola farmers. ....

Farmers protest news: Farm leaders busy, harvest season, heat: Why crowd has thinned out at UP Gate | Ghaziabad News

GHAZIABAD: For the past 90 days, Devendra Singh from Gurdwara Nanakpuri Tanda Sahib has been managing the kitchen for protesting farmers at UP Gate. Earlier, the protest site used to be dotted with langars, with people standing in long queues to receive food.
Now, there aren’t many takers and the ration requirements have come down significantly as the Ghazipur border protest site has thinned out. “There are fewer people to feed. Besides, we can’t store cooked food in this season as it will get spoiled,” said Singh.
The advent of warm weather, the practical difficulties of staying away from their farms for weeks and a hectic travel schedule that has kept away Rakesh Tikait, the BKU leader who has been leading the protest here, have all contributed to an empty look to one of the three largest rallying points for farmers opposed to the new central laws. ....

Farmers slam police notices, say lawyers will handle | Noida News

Ghaziabad: Farmers protesting at UP Gate on Thursday alleged the elderly, women and disabled were among people still receiving notices from Delhi Police in connection with the Republic Day tractor parade violence. At a press conference called to denounce the notices, farmers’ representatives said it was another tactic to create fear in the minds of those protesting against the Centre’s three new farming laws.
“It is a condemnable act by the authorities. All the notices and cases will be handled by the lawyers of the (Samyukt Kisan) Morcha,” said Jagtar Singh Bajwa, a spokesperson.
Sharing some of the notices, Bajwa added, “If Delhi Police goes to arrest any farmer in a village, then the police personnel will not be allowed to go till local police and administration officials arrive there. At the same time, villagers should ensure nothing untoward happens.” ....

Kisan Morcha in unity show at UP Gate | Noida News

Rakesh Tikait (C) along with Balbir Singh Rajewal (L) and Darshan Pal
GHAZIABAD: For the first time since the farmers’ agitation began in the last week of November, four Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leaders turned up together on Saturday at UP Gate and shared the dais with Rakesh Tikait. The timing of the visit, not to mention its optics, was significant because it happened within a day of Tikait upholding the primacy of the SKM at a mahapanchayat in Haryana’s Bahadurgarh.
Tikait’s influence and stature in the farm agitation have grown considerably after he lifted the protest from the Republic Day tractor parade debacle. But his October 2 deadline to the Centre to repeal the three new farming laws also raised eyebrows in SKM, which had distanced itself from any such deadline. At Bahadurgarh, Tikait clarified there was no deadline and the agitation would continue indefinitely till the laws are repealed. He also said the Singhu border, where the SKM has its base, will c ....

Plea against Section 144 at UP Gate rejected | Noida News

Representative image.
GHAZIABAD: A district court has rejected a review petition against the prohibitory orders imposed by the district magistrate at the farmers’ protest site at the UP Gate under Section 144 CrPC on January 20.
The petition had been filed by a senior lawyer, Nahar Singh Yadav, and a few of his colleagues. They had argued in court that the DM did not have the authority to impose prohibitory orders on a national highway, where the protest is going on.
Yadav, through his counsel, also told the court that the farmers had been protesting “peacefully” and claimed that the government had been trying to level baseless allegations against them. ....
