All lanes of Interstate 64 East opened Thursday morning at the Cochran Hill Tunnel after a fiery fatal crash Wednesday caused it to close for nearly 20 hours.
“Around 52 meters of pipes have been inserted. Efforts are on to push remaining pipes. We hope to get a breakthrough soon,” Chief Minister Pushkar Singh, who camps at the tunnel collapse site. CM Dhami said the teams of rescuers are working at the site with full energy.
The operation to rescue the trapped workers in Uttarakhand s collapsed tunnel has faced delays due to broken auger drill blades. However, the process of removing the parts of the auger has been completed, and the drilling and pushing work will now begin.
Workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi since November 12. A rescue operation has started with the help of international experts and Indian teams. Meanwhile, the Auger machine malfunction briefly halted the rescue.
