Former DG of Border Roads Organisation Harpal Singh announced that vertical drilling has been done up to 31 meters above the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel site for rescue operations. Drilling 86 meters vertically is needed to create an escape route for 41 workers stuck for 15 days. Pipes with a diameter of 1.2 meters could be laid vertically through the tunnel roof as second option.
The operation to rescue 41 workers trapped inside an Uttarakhand tunnel for more than two weeks now has been a story of new challenges at every corner and rescue teams tweaking their plans to meet them.
