Not a cohort exactly. We did become friends, puzzling over readings, yachtings brilliant, but sometimes excruciating seminars. Western history, some of you may know, was taught in the basement. And on friday afternoons. The slow drone of graduate students, our own included we survived our basement years, scattered, and became colleagues, solving problems about students for each other.
