This structure was a Field Hospital where hundreds of Wounded Soldiers were treated by surgeons in the days and weeks following the battle. With us, Daniel Vermilya to discuss his new book. Garfield and the civil war. He previously worked as a park ranger at Antietam National battlefield and he currently works at the Eisenhower National Historic Site in gettysburg, pennsylvania. Discussing civil war artillery today, if it were possible, john tidball, who is one of theidered foremost experts on the topic, would be speaking to you today. Tidball died in 1906, thats not possible. The will be discussing topic based on his writings, which i edited, and were the title the Artillery Service in the war of the rebellion by Westholme Publishing in 2011. The main point that tidball makes is that Field Artillery was most effective in the civil war when it provided mass. Tration and he argues convincingly that the inability of the army to organize its Field Artillery prior to the battle of contributedille significantly to its defeat in a number of major battles.
