Next, Historic Site manager Paige Gibbons backus talks about the state of medical knowledge at the beginning of the civil war, including surgical practices and diseases common among the soldiers. She also describes advances later in the war such as sterilization and Reconstructive Surgery that drastically improved a soldiers chance of survival.
