Tigers Shine In Doubles, Wrap Up Day Two Of ITA Regionals

CARY, N.C. – In the second day of ITA Regionals, the Clemson Tigers impressed in their doubles performances as all three duos took down two rounds of opponents to advance them to the round of 16. “We were in position in our singles matches today to take them but didn’t come up quite good enough in some important moments, but we will learn from it,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said. “6-0 today in doubles, so definitely a great step in the right direction for this group from the first tournament of the fall. The guys are competing well and looking forward to the challenge tomorrow against some stiffer competition.” The duo of Noa Vukadin and Maxwell Smith earned their first victory of the day against UNC Wilmington’s Gabriel Hurtado and Jordi Domeneche as they took down the pair 8-2. Tigers Advance to Second Round of ACC Tournament

CARY, N.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (11-14, 1-11 ACC) started the ACC Tournament off strong, handily defeating Boston College (7-14, 0-12 ACC) 4-1 at the Cary Tennis Park. The Tigers dropped the doubles point but dominated in singles to take four matches in straight sets and clinch the victory. With the win, Clemson advanced to the second round of the conference tournament for the second straight season. It will have an opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals for the second straight season on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against Florida State. It was the Eagles who came out hot to start the match, taking the doubles point to jump out to a 1-0 lead. However, the doubles point is the only one that Boston College would notch. Ryuhei Azuma continued his stellar play with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 victory on Court 1. Earlier this week, he earned the No. 93 ITA singles ranking. Tigers Fight, Fall to Louisville on Senior Day

CLEMSON, S.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (10-12, 1-9 ACC) put up a fight against Louisville (14-9, 5-6 ACC) and would see two ranked singles wins on Sunday afternoon but were unable to secure the win, dropping the match, 4-2. Ryuhei Azuma and Spencer Whitaker played efficient tennis on Court 1, winning in 6-3 fashion but the Tigers were unable to register victories on Courts 2 and 3, narrowly dropping the doubles point. The Cardinals extended their lead in singles play as Louisville’s Salle recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 3. Azuma continued to impress this afternoon, defeating No. 72 Rodrigues, 6-4, 6-1 for a solid ranked win. Louisville would counter with another win of their own on Court 6 before Plans Gonzalez registered his highest ranked win of the season, dominating against No. 26 Donnet, 7-5, 6-2 to bring the score to 3-2.
