That doesnt seem to be happening this year. Reporter rachel ramos tells us about the rise in car thefts in sioux city. Rachel jenna, tim, there has been a dramatic increase in the recorded amount of stolen vehicles over the past several weeks. I spoke with detective jeff harstad of the Sioux City Police deptment who filled us in on why there has been a sudden spike. These recent Motor Vehicle thefts have been primarily occuring within the morningside area. The local law enforement has opened a few doors to a couple theories on why people have been chosing to steal cars more recently. Tim witnesses say the car went airborne on 25th street as it flew over a steep hill. We have more details tonight in our top story. The accident happened near the corner of 25th and morgan streets on the northside.
