Garcia Now Accepting Submissions For Annual Arts Competition Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, announced Monday that he is accepting student artwork submissions for the annual Congressional Art Competition. The yearly Congressional Arts Competition is now accepting new submissions as of Monday, March 15, according to officials from Garcia’s office. “I am excited to announce the commencement of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition,” Garcia said in a statement Monday. “This is my first time hosting this competition as a Member of Congress and I couldn’t be more thrilled to see what the creative students from California’s 25th District come up with.” ....
Number Of Reported Weekend Arrests In Santa Clarita Valley Drops 30% The number of arrests reported in the Santa Clarita Valley over the weekend decreased by roughly 30%, with weekend logs indicating 30 total arrests reported in comparison with last weekend’s 42 arrests. Between Friday, March 12, and Sunday, March 14, police booking logs indicate that a reported total of 30 arrests were recorded by officials from both the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall Office and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. This total is roughly 30% fewer arrests than those of the previous weekend of March 5-7, indicating a steep decline in arrests compared to the rising arrest rate of the previous two weeks that totaled 42 and 36 respectively. ....

California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom broke his silence Monday about a growing recall effort and launched his own campaign to defend his record. Newsom played up the fact that his critics are attacking the state much in the way former President Donald Trump did while in office. “I am not going to take this recall attempt lying down,” Newsom told the Los Angeles Times in a statement from his political campaign. “I’m going to fight because there’s too much at stake in this moment.” Newsom announced his “Stop The Republican Recall” campaign Monday after recall sponsors said last week that they have collected the 2 million signatures required to kick off a special election. The recall effort has until Wednesday to submit their voter-signed petitions to the California Secretary of State’s office. ....
