In conjunction with the Santa Public Library’s One Story One City 2021 book selection, “Eat Joy: 31 Stories & Comfort Food from 31 Celebrated Writers,” The MAIN is excited to present two delicious, food-themed plays, “A Recipe for Disaster” and “The Good, The Bad and The Hungry.” Both of these plays will feature a story centered around food, fun and a five-star rating. The first play to be featured is “The Good, The Bad and The Hungry,” by Barry Agin and directed by Margo Caruso, Nancy Lantis, George Nikitas, Felicia Tamika Shepard and Calliope Weisman. This production is comprised of five delectable one-act comedies, with a menu including love, life and laughter. ....
Because of the recent rainfall, Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, has issued a beach advisory for the county. Davis cautions residents that bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas are likely to contaminate ocean waters at and around discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers. Individuals who enter the water in these areas could become ill. This advisory will be in effect until at least Thursday, March 18 at 10 a.m. and may be extended depending on further rainfall. Santa Clarita Valley resident Stephen De Vita, MD, has been named Area Medical Director and Chief of Staff for the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center Area, which includes the SCV and the East San Fernando Valley. In his new role, De Vita will lead one of the largest local physician groups, with almost 500 physicians serving nearly a quarter-million members. “Through our integrated health system, the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center continues to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to advance the health outcomes of our members, patients, and the communities we serve,” De Vita notes. “The social mission of Kaiser Permanente – to ensure health and wellness is accessible for everyone – inspires and motivates me daily.” ....
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the 2021 Oscar nominees on Monday, March 15, with several CalArtians among the list of honorees. In the Animated Feature category, two of the five films nominated for Academy Awards were directed by CalArts alums. Director Pete Docter (Film/Video BFA 90) received a nomination with fellow producer Dana Murray for the Pixar feature “Soul.” The nomination for Docter marks his fourth in the category, a record for Best Animated Feature, which was introduced by the Oscars 20 years ago. The film about a New York jazz pianist (Jamie Foxx), who finds himself trapped in a strange place between Earth and the afterlife also picked up nominations in the Original Score and Sound categories. ....
