Abc news is showing republicans hanging onto a threeseat advantage with a number of contests still up for grabs as democrats look to take control of the chamber. One seat not changing hands is maine republican susan collins, who survived a major challenge from democrat sara gideon. Collins holds on for a fifth term, winning by seven percentage points. In the house, republicans have a net gain of five seats so far. Democrats are trying to maintain their advantage in that chamber. More than a dozen races are considered tossups. This election brought a number of firsts for the lgbtq plus community. Delawares Sarah Mcbride is the first openly transgender state senator in the country. Tennessee now has its first openly lgbtq lawmakers with tori harris and eddie manus winning their races. Taylor small is vermonts first openly transgender legislator.
