Colonie police are investigating after a driver struck and killed a 16-year-old on Central Avenue Thursday night.
Police say it happened around 10:40 p.m. They say 16-year-old San-ya Blaylock was leaving from her job at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Central Avenue and crossing over to the bus stop on the south side when a car hit her.
The driver, 20-year-old Kyle Gara, is a volunteer firefighter. Police say Gara immediately stopped and started performing CPR.
Officers say Blaylock was not in the crosswalk when she was hit.
Investigators say Gara is cooperating, and they do not believe any kind of impairment was a factor in the crash.
