COLONIE — A volunteer firefighter struck a 16-year-old Albany girl with his car Thursday evening, killing her by accident, police said.
At around 10:38 p.m., San-ya Blaylock finished her shift at Kentucky Fried Chicken on 1235 Central Ave. As she crossed over to the bus stop on the south side of the street, the 20-year-old firefighter from Colonie struck the girl with his 2009 Hyundai in the westbound lane.
Police said the vehicle hit Blaylock near the intersection of Central Avenue and Frederick Avenue.
Police said the driver, who was not injured in the crash, got out of his car, moved the girl out of the travel lane and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Another fireman and a police officer arrived at the scene and tried to assist Blaylock, police said.
