Floodprone areas in west portal did not see huge problems like last month with sewage coming up from below and out of the toilets. The city says project designs are under way to fix those problems. Its projected to start in 2021. Thats going to take two years. Fulsome, thats starting in 2020 and will be completed in 2021. Reporter meantime crews are out raking up the mess and clearing up drains to prevent more flooding. Some drivers today saw a silver lining. The rain saves us from the fire, yeah . Its bad because of the weather but another time its very good. The news at 11 00 starts right now. A cold, wet night across the bay area. Most of the storm has passed but the wet weather is far from over. The storm brought with it rain, wind, hail, and snow. This is what it looked like in San Francisco just a few hours ago. Bits of ice collecting on cars. And always beautiful to see the occasional snowstorm here in the bay area. Our nbc bay area sky ranger down below. Those are cows grazing on the blankets of snow. Tonight, thinging are quieting down just a bit. This is a live look over San Francisco and san jose. Lets start with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri who has been tracking the storm. What happens now . Most of that storm system has moved off towards the south. Coming up on the onramp north of there is where the crash blocks all lanes of northbound 17 and this is a problem coming out of the santa cruz mountains. On the maps, kris sanchez is there getting more information and north 17 is fine out of the summit and highway 85 approaching hamilton. That is where the freeway is closed. You have to use baskom or winchester and meridian will take you toward the area and slowing on 280 and more folks skr jumping in. Keep that in mind. And keep your waze on for the closure. The south bay and the bay moving well. I have little bits showing up on the radar but calmer this morning. Much calmer this morning. A big storm coming in in the near term and the rain during the overnight hours starting to taper off and of moving out of the bay area. So we are going to see mostly clear skies. It is about to be loaded up and taken away. So for the time being, one lane of traffic northbound on highway 17 is open. The rest of the lanes are still closed. We have heard reports of drivers going through the where they are not supposed to. Be aware if you do that you put yourself in danger and Law Enforcement in danger and because the freeway is closed because they are trying to clear the scene. This all happened around 3 15, 3 30 this morning. But, again, one more instance of somebody getting on to the freeway going in the wrong direction. We dont know why. At this point chp telling us they dont believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor. So we dont know, again, where this driver got on in the wrong direction in the first place. We will let you know.
