Coming up on the onramp north of there is where the crash blocks all lanes of northbound 17 and this is a problem coming out of the santa cruz mountains. On the maps, kris sanchez is there getting more information and north 17 is fine out of the summit and highway 85 approaching hamilton. That is where the freeway is closed. You have to use baskom or winchester and meridian will take you toward the area and slowing on 280 and more folks skr jumping in. Keep that in mind. And keep your waze on for the closure. The south bay and the bay moving well. I have little bits showing up on the radar but calmer this morning. Much calmer this morning. A big storm coming in in the near term and the rain during the overnight hours starting to taper off and of moving out of the bay area. So we are going to see mostly clear skies. Very cold temperatures behind that front that moves through yesterday. Looking at san jose and the trend for the rest of the day, temperatures dipping into the upper 30s and a slow warmup with with mostly sunny skies today. Well talk about this and what is ahead for the weekend coming up in the microclimate forecast. New overnight, another deadly crash in the south bay before midnight on northbound 101 near story road offramp in san jose. As you could see the vehicle burst into flames. The chp said the driver could not be saved. No other cars were involved and right now there is no word on how it happened. All lanes have now reopened. A woman in danville confronts a man who broke into her home. The woman believes that a car seen in this Surveillance Video could be tied to the crime. The victim lived in her danville neighborhood for 40 years. And she did not back down from the suspect. Cheryl hurd has more from danville. There was a large crash. So then i jumped up out of my chair, when i jumped up there was a man standing in my living room. Reporter it was 8 30 in the morning, karen harris said the burglar all dressed in black never said a word. So i yelled at him instead. And i asked him what the hell he was doing in my house. I think it is scary because you hear more and more people coming up the valley here from dublin going north of more and more burglaries and more and more things happening. Reporter from a neighborhoods surveillance camera you could see grainy video of what appears to be two people running away from harris danville home and jumping that a black car. Police arent saying if this video is connected to the crime. Lars wolf lives four doors down and he said it appears the Home Invasion was wellplanned. They cased the joints, backed the car into the back of the driveway and they knew exactly what they were doing. Reporter wolf said there was no license plate on the car. Checking in with kris sanchez live on the scene out there. This looked horrific. Reporter this is a really difficult crash, laura and marcus. The two cars are virtually not recognizable. If you didnt tell me what kind of cars they were im not sure that i could guess. Were not looking in this direction because right now firefighters are working to remove the victim who died in one of those cars. To the right here the other car is on the shoulder. But chp has opened one lane of traffic in the northbound direction to drain t drain th texas on highway 17. If you are on highway 17 from campbell or farther up north from san jose, you will be diverted off of highway 17 before you get to the prim yard at the exit right before that. The tow truck has just arrived to take one of the cars away and hopefully that will alleviate the problem and then chp will be able to open one lane of traffic. What we know at this point is that somebody reported that there was a wrongway driver on highway 17 going in the going south in the northbound lane. And there was a crash between a honda sedan and some sort of infinite vehicles as well. We doan know which one of the vehicles was the wrongway driver. We do know that the driver who was in the honda passed away and that there was somebody else who was in the infinite that was extricated using the jaws of life and transported to the hospital. So again we know at least one person died in this terrible crash out here this morning. Chp working to try to get traffic back to normal for those of you who are headed out here this morning. I should mention we have a bit of a correction. The driver that was skik extricated was in a toyota not in an infinity. Were getting details. But the backup is serious. Chp is well aware this is prime commute hours and trying to get things back to normal for you out here this morning. But again, one person died here with what is a one wrongway driver on highway 17 northbound just near the prune yard. So steer clear if you can avoid this area. So as we go into the afternoon, were looking mostly cloudy. Now that the storm system moved on, well have a new storm system approaching but look at what happens as we go into the weekend. It stays to the north of us and just kind of fizzles out but well be left with some clouds going into saturday and early sunday morning but we should get some sunshine by sunday afternoon which, of course, is our important forecast watching the forecast for the 49ers game as we reach into the 50s, a little bit warmer for the holiday, if youre making plans to go to the Martin Luther king jr. Celebrations, well see tea see temperatures up to about 60 degrees and well see rain in the forecast on tuesday. Scattered showers moving in and highs in the lower 60s going into next wednesday. For San Francisco, were also going to dry out our forecast and see more clouds moving in. A few peeks of sunshine between today and tomorrow but overall the forecast is looking good. Most of the south bay is not a problem but it is in the middle of the screen, north 17 closed at hamilton, the crash involved a wrongway driver. Ill give you the alternate. Going north, bascom and west chester and past the scene toward 280 but that is a problem now. A live look out there. Kris sanchez crew shows us they are continuing to try to clear the roadway. They are work theyre doing with regard to a couple of vehicles that are completely mangled. They have managed to clear one lane. Were told traffic is out of the backup. I dont know if theyll leave that one lane open for the duration. So well check that traffic flow. Getting back to the maps, you do see again bascom and winchester are around the scene and marin from campbell up to 280. Consider it closed even though they have opened one lane, that back will soon build with the traffic coming out of the santa cruz mountains. The rest of the bay shows an easy drive. Three men are in custody accused of kidnapping a 14yearold girl and Authorities Say snapchat played a key role in the arrest. Police found the girl at a San Jose Motel on tuesday. Investigators say one of the suspects Albert Thomas vasquez met the victim in that morning and somehow she ingested drugs that knocked her out. Investigators say he and two accomplices drove her to the motel. Officers pinpointed the girls location by snapchat that she made to friends who called 911. Others staying at the hotel were stunned to learn the news. Shouldnt be taking nobodys young daughter and kidnapping her like that. That is just not right. Police say the 14yearold victim is now safe. Vasquez faces multiple charges including sexual assault. All three suspects are booked on kidnapping charges. Well parents at a San FranciscoCatholic School are angry after students put threats on targeted gun violence on social media and say School Administrators did not call the police or tell the community. Parents say a sacred heart catholic prep sophomore posted a threatening song targeting africanamerican, asian and arab students. Last night parents and students met with an administrator. They left wondering why the student was never arrested and allowed to stay in school for days after students told administrators. Right now theyre all scared. They dont want to come back to school tomorrow. Theyre afraid for their life. We dont know what is going to happen. A parent called police on monday as police searched the boys home and deemed it that threat not credible. Sacred heart emailed staff and students saying he no longer attended the school but a large group who met with with an administrator on campus said it expects an arrest and assured the boy who they say lives nearby will not be allowed near campus.
