Wayne County Deputies responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident on IL64. 23-year- old Allen Hempensones of Mt. Vernon was traveling along Interstate 64 near mile marker 106 when for unknown reasons he left the roadway, striking a guard rail, and popping a tire. There were no injuries. Wayne County responded to the scene of a car vs. deer collision. 39-year-old Fairfield resident Ryan Sagar was traveling westbound on IL Hwy 15 near Co. Rd 1400E when a deer ran into the roadway. Sagar was unable to avoid the collision causing damage to his vehicle. Local Arrests Illinois State Police arrested 38-year-old Mt. Vernon, IL resident Evan Boucher DeSoto, Mo on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. He was transported to the Wayne County Jail with bond set at $320. 32 year old Ashley Bebout of Crossville, was arrested by Wayne County on a Failure to Appear Contempt of Court warrant out of Richland County. Jury selection in the Brody Murbarger case concluded yesterday with the selection of the final two jurors and two alternates, prior to the murder trial, which started at 1:30pm and ran through 4:00pm. Murbarger is accused of the disappearance and murder of Megan Nichols on July 3, 2014. Murbarger was arrested on October 8th of 2020 in Evansville, IN after being indicted by a Wayne County Grand Jury. Nichols body was found Southern Wayne County in December of 2017 and taken to Bloomington for autopsy, before being taken to the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia to confirm the identity of the remains. The trial continues today in Wayne County Circuit Court. The case is being presided over by Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael J. Molt. The Defense is being represented by Christian Baril. Prosecuting the case are Assistant Attorneys General Michael Falagario, Myra Yelle-Clark, and Wayne County States Attorney Kevin Kakac. Starting at 7am today, part of the Fairfield Memorial Hospital's main parking lot, to include the entrance into the main lobby of the hospital will be closed until approximately Noon. Drop offs and picks up will be at the Surgical Pavilion. This closure is due to a crane that will be moving in the new AC equipment as part of the Phase II renovations. There will be periods of time starting at 10am when they will be moving heavy duty equipment overhead and no staff or visitors will be permitted in certain areas of the main part of the hospital due to safety concerns.
