The congress in the future. And what i can do to better help the folks back home. Now a typical state bar. It involves distance facetoface and vince from every corner of my state covering all ages professions and walks of life. And last august i spent time talking with my constituents about everything from the debbie smith act and g. I. Benefits for student veterans to project safe neighborhood grants in the usmexico canada trade agreements. At as we all know, 2020 has been anything but typical. In this august was no exception. These big inperson events have been replaced with virtual ones read but facetoface meetings, which now involve wearing masks, social distancing, and a heavy dose of hand sanitizer. Instead of the broad range of policies and we might normally discuss, almost every one of them centered on the impact of the covid19. No big surprise there. Every good and perfect gift. You shower us with your mercies. Each day we are further aware of our unworthiness because of your goodness. All we like sheep have gone astray. Lord, we are prone to wander, to leave you, the god we love. As our senators work today, make them extensions of your power in our world. Use them as your eyes, ears, hands, and feet to accomplish your purposes. Lord, make them your ambassadors. May they arrange their priorities according to your will and view their challenges from an ethical perspective, striving to seek your will in all they think, say, and do. May they find in challenging moments opportunities to renew their faith in you. We pray in your merciful name. Amen. The president pro tempore please help me with the pledge of allegiance. He also served our state as Economic Development director, something that is certainly near and dear to my heart. Ive always believed that job creations are job one. To me thats the engine th
Quorum call ms. Cortez masto mr. President , i rise today in opposition to it the nomination of lawrence van dyke to serve on the United States court of appeals for the ninth circuit. Mr. Van dyke fits neatly into this administrations pattern of picking federal judges for our Circuit Courts of appeal without meaningful input from home state senators. The president continues to select ideologically extreme nominees like mr. Van dyke, and the white house is putting forward people without enough experience for the momentous roles they have been chosen to serve. Mr. Van dyke has been nominated to fill a nevada seat on the ninth circuit, even though hes not a nevadan. He didnt grow up in my state, he doesnt appear to own property there, he doesnt seem to have family ties, and he was only an active member of the nevada state bar for two years. Senator rosen and i engage with the white house to put forward highly respected nevadans with bipartisan support, but our suggestions were summarily i
