78yearold man in a wheelchair, then taking off. He admitted to striking the subject in a wheelchair and also not stopping or calling 911. Reporter the car slammed into the elderly man as he crossed ft. Lee road monday morning. The man was thrown nearly 25 feet. This woman heard the crash. He tried to stop, i think. Thats why the stopping reporter she called 911, then ran out to help. The victim lying helpless on the ground. The car nowhere in sight. When i ran into him, luckily, he was conscious. Reporter the elderly man suffered six broken ribs, a broken clavicle, and a fractured hip. The driver was likely distracted. Also a key piece of evidence left behind. A front skid plate which they traced to a 2016 buick encore. Known to those in the area. Neighbors telling us hes always driving his wheelchair waving to everyone. He is always around town saying hello to everybody. He is the nicest guy ever. Reporter thomas is facing a number of charges, including leaving the scene of the accide ....
