Omar Infante is a right-handed five-foot-11 infielder from Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela. A 15-season major league veteran, Infante manned second base almost exclusively by the time he reached the Marlins in 2011.
In 1999, still just 17-years-old, Infante signed his first professional contract with the Detroit Tigers. After making his major league debut in 2002, he played in 494 contests through the following six seasons for the Tigers, hitting .253/.298/.386 with 32 home runs, 154 RBI, and 34 stolen bases in 48 attempts. After the 2007 season, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Jacque Jones (#540), then flipped a month later with Will Ohman to the Atlant ....

Tigers To Sign Anibal Sanchez

The Tigers announced that they have agreed to sign free agent right-hander 
Anibal Sanchez to a five-year contract that includes a 2018 club option. The deal is valued at $80MM according to, Bob Nightengale of USA Today, who first reported the deal (on Twitter).
“Anibal pitched tremendously for us down the stretch and during the post-season,” Tigers president and GM Dave Dombrowski said.
“He strengthens our starting rotation and we are pleased to have him back with the Tigers organization.” 
Agent Gene Mato represents Sanchez, who agrees to terms with Detroit after coming close to a deal with the Cubs. Cubs ownership and Theo Epstein offered Sanchez a $77MM contract in Miami last week, but the Tigers jumped in and won the bidding, Nightengale reports (on Twitter). The Red Sox also talked to Sanchez, but didn t go as high as $80MM, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter). ....

They’re the ones who rack up the big numbers, most of the awards and most of the money. They’re the ones with the shots at perfect games and no-hitters. Ok, so sometimes there are
combined no-hitters, but who remembers that Kirk Saarloos threw an inning and a third of a Houston Astros no-hitter? Not even his family, I bet.
Relievers get saves and holds, but the save is so contrived that one was recorded in a game won by 27 runs, and I think everyone knows the only people who pay attention to holds are the folks who care way too much about fantasy baseball. Besides, both saves and holds are too common to be properly exciting. What’s the pinnacle of relieverism? What’s the most incredible thing a reliever could do in a single game? ....
