We re joined now by van gurly and peter goelz and fran townsend. van, you spent 26 years in the navy. so describe a little bit of the challenge that awaits those. the southern oceans are distant. it s an isolated place and very hard to get to. the discussion is already for both planes and boats? for everybody. if you wanted to find the end of the earth, this is probably where you would start. really? so one is a very remote area. it s hard to get assets in there. and then once you get in there, it s hard to deal with the weather. the good part is that the good weather is farther south typically than what they are looking at now and that s not helping in today s search and tomorrow s search with the p-3s and p-8s. chad myers said out in this area where the debris if this ....
And two, an ability to define what they re seeing on the surface, and either count it as debris or more importantly just count it off as garbage. so as they are looking now to the south, they have a high degree of confidence that they ll find something that s there, and they ll go to the next level of determining what it might be. kerry sanders, thank you. i want to bring if retired aviation analyst hager and tom bunn, good to have both of you here. picking up on what kerry said, robert, if they are able to spot something, because we know the likelihood is they will send the p-3s and p-8s out in our night time, how long will they take to figure out you might not be able to tell from the air right away. i think some of the reports from the planes that did get out to the scenes today, we re talking ....
Find out but at this moment, uss blue ridge, the command ship getting realtime data from the air and have no confirmation about debris in that area. kerry sanders has been following this for us from washington, d.c. and has been in touch with the folks on board that ship. and kerry, let s go back to set the stage for people joining us. the anti-submarine hunting plane so far has not seen anything. there are also a couple of p-3 propeller planes on way. differentiate the type you have equipment that s on board and is it possible that the p 3 might be able to see something that the p isn t? it s more likely the 3 8 will see something that the p 3 can t. the best technology to see on the surface of the ocean are on board that p-8. the p 3s with less technology still have incredible ability to see and so you have the 3 3 two ....
Some of it. kerry sanders is joining us. let s talk about the objects that have been described as credible, at least in leading search investigators to this portion of the indian ocean. there are two different satellite objects that appeared. one being ruffle 78 feet long and the other 15 feet long, correct? that cis correct . they were taken by satellite images. we are looking at photographs taken from orb bitting satellite with decent resolution but not the resolution you would like to determine what exactly it is. is so that information is then shared with those that have the aircraft, which in this case the australians are sharing it with their own navy and going to the new zealand navy and u.s. navy. those are where the p-8s and p-3s are going. the u.s. sends its p-8 out there. it looks and looks in the target area for four hours. ....
good morning, chris. well, they certainly got the investigative artillery going with the aircraft, the p 3s are scouring the surface of the water but it s so far away, 1500 miles off the coast and that part of the oceaning is royaling. i m not surprised that electronic means have been used, satellites to the discover this debris and nobody s had a sighting of it. but it s encouraging. unhappily, the human dimension is coming to the forenow. this mystery has been prolonged for so many days, it s agonizing to the loved ones of the passengers aboard that flight. we in the aviation community, airline pilots have been glued to our televisions waiting for further disclosures, news of what happened to this plane. and it s just it s such an ....
