breaking news of federal jury finding hunter biden, the president at a previously scheduled event on gun safety, and we just learned that afterwards he will be traveling to delaware to be with his son or last hour, the special prosecutor in the case gave his first statements since the jury reached their decision this morning here s david weiss this case was about the illegal choices defendant made while in the throes of addiction. his choice to lie on a government form when he bought a gun and the choice to them possess that gun, it was these choices. and the combination of guns and drugs that made his conduct dangerous second no one in this country is above the law everyone must, be accountable for their actions. even this defendant however hunter biden, should be no more accountable than any other citizen convicted of this same conduct. the prosecution has been and will continue to be committed to this principle some jurors though, are now questioning whether this case sh
on speaker mccarthy as the presidential race comes around because they re seeing this as an opportunity to score kind of messaging points rather than actually kind of the serious effort of policymaking. but, josh, the question whether those messaging points got them anything or did they help elevate adam schiff in his race for the senate in california? i think adam schiff is laughing all the way to the bank on this, as you ve noted. in terms of that messaging, republican candidates for the house in the midterms outran senate candidates. republicans in the house tried to run more normal campaigns on issues good for republicans like crime and inflation. you had candidates in senate races running trying to relitigate the election, obsessed with donald trump and vindicating him and underperformed the house candidates. this stuff where you re trying to do imimpeachments, i don t think that s in the gop s bread and butter and one of the republican congressmen representing a biden distric
do we sacrifice something as a result? we do. are they just sacrificing messaging points or is the idea that if you look that polling, spending freeze, maybe spending cuts, progressives aren t going to like that. we ll have to wait and see. republicans are talking about this already. they are talking about what they are giving up, they are talking about the fact they are at the negotiating table as a sign they are working to try to do things in a positive way. we just haven t heard the same thing. they have ducked out meetings and taken a more old-fashioned approach, which is let s get behind a closed douor. let s actually work on getting something done. but this is a 21st century negotiation with social media and with discussions happening and narratives being built and the white house has not played a central role in building the narrative. they are paying the price for that.
