i know there's been all sorts of reporting, something about being able to say i need to use the bathroom or something? that is been out there. have you been able to confirm that? >> so, police have said that pelosi was able to make the call in a veiled, secret way so that when he was speaking on the phone with the 9-1-1 operator he was speaking in a way that the intruder did not know that he was on the phone with police. it seems like, when i spoke with the police chief yesterday, that paul was speaking in a way with the intruder so that the 9-1-1 operator could hear that he was in danger. this was, again, in a way that the intruder didn't know for a fact that he was on the phone that the 9-1-1 operator was able to elevate the call so officers could get there quickly. the police chief told me when they entered, they saw all the intruder attacked paul pelosi with that hammer. obviously, if he hadn't been able to make that call, who knows what could've happened, right? >> you know, alex, i am reminded of the old line is the economy stupid? it is one of the import american issues where the americans think of the economy and what happened to the americans, good, bad, different is important voters. americans trust republicans more than democrats on the house of the economy. we are seeing to what democrats are doing trying to fix that problem. they're trying to get out a full court press against this country. for you see president obama in michigan in wisconsin yesterday. the first ladies in new york, new hampshire. even bernie sanders is out doing a tour of western states, to try to drive up turnout and get people excited about the economy and tell people what the democrats have done over the past two years. weather was the chips, act slayton, reduction act. that may not be in place until january 1st, but things that could help democrats in the future. and help all americans in the future. present biden, for his part, is here in wilmington. he voted yesterday after he voted he had some thoughts about how his strategy when it comes to campaigning is. here's what he had to say. >> i am feeling good. i have been feeling now in 36 constituencies either campaigning for specific candidates or are going with the candidate who is doing some but -- in pittsburgh. i'm going to be going for the remainder of the week. i will be spending the rest of the time making the case that this is not a referendum, it is a choice. a fundamental choice. a choice between two very different visions for the country. that is what it is about. >> so, president biden will be traveling this week to new mexico a florida campaign for democrats across the states there. we now know where he's going to be spending his midterm election eve, it will be with democrats in maryland. alex? >> yeah, alex, the spin doctors on both sides are going to have plenty to work with here. the economic picture is particularly complicated right now. let's take the gross domestic product report that you are talking about earlier. yes, indeed the economy did grow in the july to september period up 2.6%. within that, there are parts of the economy that were contracted. things like motor vehicles, home construction definitely. really, anything that is susceptible to inflation and interest rates. that is what we are dealing with. inflation is still running at 40 year highs and the federal reserve is aggressively trying to rein latin by raising interest rates. no where do we see that more pro family than in the housing market. just rates, as you said, topping 7% for the first time in 20 years this past week. look at what that does to the monthly payment here in california for a medium priced home. there's a 40% increase from where it would have been a year ago. realtors across the country are saying that the ftc a change in the starting market, but they are saying they did not see icing crash like they saw several years ago. it is more market that is returning to more normal. >> this is very different from 2007, 2008. our properties still have incredible amounts of equity. there is not many via very many people who are in a very tight financial position that they still have to sell or which sea short sales or foreclosures like in the past. that is more risk right now. it is just coming down to affordability and that kind of settling in and slowing the pace of the market. very different from before. >> things are going to start getting even trickier though, this week. the federal reserve will meet this week and it is widely expected to raise interest rates again. aggressively. by another three quarters of a point. they will be paying close attention to the economists, everybody else, to language in that. are they going to taper off those rate interest rate increases. friday you get the unemployment report expected to show a solid job growth. that is good, but still a tight labor market. that is not good for inflation. alex. >> i have to tell you, it mail maybe normal where we are right now but homeowners in first time home buyers sure like the just prior to normal. i know a lot of them are hoping it goes back to that. it might take a while, though. thank you for that. new in key january six deadlines for donald trump this week. what are they in why are they so critical what happened when one quart hearing involving three trump lawyers and the doj. we know it involved mar-a-lago. those details, next. next. you could manufacture a whole new way of manufacturing. disrupt buying habits before they disrupt your business. and fuel the search for what comes next. so...what are you waiting for? is there any way he can avoid appearing before the committee? >> first, number one, i am sure he will delay. this committee could cease to be in existence in january. the midterm elections, of course, could change the party in power. if republicans control the party, no doubt they will expand the committee and he could run out the clock. that is a scenario that is fairly likely, depending on how the elections turnout. even if democrats retain power, i think it is likely that he will engage in a protracted delay by asserting executive privilege. there are certainly some matters covered by executive privilege, but it is one that can be outweighed when there is a stronger national interest. it is one that belongs to the office of the presidency -- i think if the committee stays intact and if they persist long enough, they could push him to the senate's testimony. if he does testify would require someone to enforce it we will. see if the justice department is up to. that >> he could claim, less but merely as a delay tactic. it is your supposition that at some point they would say, this does not apply in this case. >> i think so. there is already been a judge on the findings when it comes to the presidential records at the white house tried to block from being turned over from the national archives. that is relying on the president of the united states, that when there is a strong enough national interest they can outweigh executive privilege. it would be simply qualified privilege. the next case is the ones that make sense if it turns over -- the investigation. it was a criminal investigation and not a crime congressional one. this decision relating to the documents was part of the january six committee. i think along the same lines, eventually, is executive privilege with the yield here. >> on thursday, three of trump's four personal lawyers attended a sealed hearing before a.d.a. judge. what was not about? could -- the da judge, my goodness. could they be trying to cut a deal or could this be about allowing another mar-a-lago search? >> yeah, i think it is unlikely that it is about trying to cut a deal. i don't think that they would be at the courthouse to do that. i think they would try to negotiate that at a private office outside of cameras but i think it is likely that they are litigating a grand jury issue. when there are matters a before the grand jury is a judge that handles them, but in secret to ensure the proceedings are secret. and there's likely some assertion of privilege here in terms of witness testimony by someone at like pat cipollone or for documents, perhaps the subpoena asked for additional documents. it seems likely that there is some privilege here, but executive privilege might have to yield. if this fifth amendment privilege against self incrimination that would be harder. there's even -- reduction privilege, which means that you ask me for the documents -- if i simply turn them over to you in response to that subpoena i confess to a crime. you have to give the production a loan to incriminate you. even that -- >> okay, barbara mcquade, thank you so much for clarifying the questions. we appreciate that. next, for all of you to the midterms. republicans take control of the house, they are already talking impeachment. my political panel talks about the idea and how it seems destined to backfire. first, gop condemnation for the attack on nancy pelosi's husband. one prominent republican has not said a word about it, which begs the question, why not?
