CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson men’s tennis team continued its solid play on the second day of the Clemson Invitational, registering a doubles win courtesy of Trey Stinchcomb and Matt Pitts and six overall singles victories. The day was highlighted by a sweep of three straight wins for Stinchcomb. The Tigers split doubles in the morning as Whitaker and Smith dropped the match to Presbyterian’s Benson and Milanovic, but Stinchcomb and M. Pitts gave the Tigers momentum heading into singles as they defeated Charlotte’s Dreycopp and Gloria, 7-5. Four of six Tigers opened the day with singles wins as M. Pitts, Stinchcomb, Max Smith and Ethan Silva all came out victorious on their respective courts, taking down opponents from Auburn, Charlotte and Wisconsin. Stinchcomb continued to play solid tennis for the Tigers as he defeated Wisconsin’s Schwartz 7-5, 7-6 while Smith beat Presbyterian’s Max Benson 6-2, 6-3 to go 3-0 in the first two days of play. M. CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson men’s tennis team fought hard but came up short Sunday as they wrapped up the Clemson Invitational. Maxwell Smith and Matt Pitts kicked off the day for the Tigers as the sole doubles team playing for Clemson. In a down to the wire match, University of North Florida’s Jonas Hartenstein and PJ Kotan narrowly beat Smith and Pitts 7-6. Trey Stinchcomb would join Smith and Pitts on the courts later to represent the Clemson Tigers in singles. Stinchcomb lost both sets while Smith and Pitts would play three sets before dropping their own matches as well. “We did not come out on top today in our matches but we competed well for 90% of the time. The 10% was the difference today” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “Max played beautifully for 2 sets but could not keep up that level long enough to get the win. Matt was in control for the first two sets but pressed a bit and opened the door for his opponent, who played well. There were a lot of positive takeaway ....
CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson men’s tennis team started their fall season off strong, with a doubles win from Spencer Whitaker and four singles victories, including Ethan Silva’s first career victory. Junior Spencer Whitaker and sophomore Max Smith started a bit slow but gained momentum near the end of the set to secure the first doubles win of the fall season for the Tigers over North Florida’s Carroll and Vietri, 7-5. Trey Stinchcomb and Matt Pitts narrowly dropped their doubles match by a score of 6-4 to the Auburn Tigers. Smith impressed in his first fall match, defeating Auburn’s Bruno Vietri in two quick sets, 6-4, 6-2 right before Tim Pitts put in an impressive performance beating Wisconsin’s Zachary Schwartz 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Silva recorded his first career victory for the Tigers after defeating Charlotte’s Brett Gloria in a tough fought third set by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Whitaker rounded out the evening with a solid performance against Auburn’s Gray, 6-3, 4-6, ....
