He is an associate professor of history at the university of miami, in ohio, where he teaches courses on Abraham Lincoln, the civil war, and modern europe. He earned his phd in 1993 from brown university. He has devoted much of his career to discussing the 16th resident of the United States. He is also the author of a number of books.
