now take a look at what is left. these pictures are from the historic coastal town of lahaina. you can see the burned out wreckage of the homes there. the governor of hawaii estimated that 80% of the town is gone. he said it was probably the us state s largest ever natural disaster. we can also show you these pictures. they show that some buildings seem to have been left untouched by the flames whilst others just metres away have been completely destroyed. locals, who have been left to just look in horror at what they ve lost, say there were no warning sirens to alert them as the flames moved towards their homes. authorities say it will take many years and billions of dollars to repair the damage. this map gives you an idea of the fires that are still burning on the island and where firefighters are still battling to contain the flames. some of the people who managed to escape gathered in a safe parking area to spend the night. they ve been describing what happened. i lost my ....
