( mark ) breaking news we are following this morning. people in one san francisco neighborhood are being told to shelter-in-place as police negotiate with a man who is armed.( tiffany ) this stand-off has been going on for hours. kron 4 s will tran has been at the scene all morning. will, what do we know? ( will )at approximately 11:45pm police received calls regarding shots fired in the area of 15th st and beaver. units responded to the scene and found evidence thats gun shots were fired. units made contact with a male who we suspect is armed but he refused to exit his residence. at this time police are negotiating with the suspect. we are requesting for residents to shelter in place and to avoid the area until the scene is secure. they attended a weekly festival with other fire tighters. when they walked out, they were con fronted by a man with a gun. it s unclear if words were exchanged or what the circumstances were before the shooting. police say the suspect then took off after he fired at least two rounds. then a short pursuit through the streets of japan town. we don t know if there are others or other details. we re searching the neighborhood to make sure there are not other people associated with this event. that search is ongoing. reporter: and, again, to recap, one off-duty oakland firefighter is dead. another is at the hospital. one man is being questioned about the shooting. i am told these were relatively young firefighters, just recently out of the academy. now the oakland fire department no doubt is in mourning over this loss. this is a very quiet neighborhood. not a lot of calls for shootings in japantown. that all changed last night. we re live in japantown, i m damian trujill ....
