"normally all the cases have like jewelry in there; i like looking at the watches. and i did notice that where the rings are, like the diamond rings and stuff, it was kind of empty, so."empty because the suspects pulled out hammers, smashed the glass, and stole several items of jewelry.they ran out to a waiting getaway car, and escaped.the case, though empty, does have new glass."i thought they were moving the stuff around. like i thought they were doing inventory or something like that."if this story sounds familiar, you may be remembering the smash and grab from the costco in foster city last month "i heard about the one at costco in danville; i read about that, and i think periodically i've read about others."kron four also told you about those átwo danville incident in may, where again, thieves went straight to the glass jewelry case with hammers.the second time, one of the suspects fired a gun into the air.a private security guard was watching the entrance later that day. "unlike the may robbery in danville, police say there was no gun used in this one, and nobody got hurt."but nobody got caught, either. "it surprises me that it happened in danville and here as well." police say the three suspects are black men in their 20's, and the getaway car was a dark, four-door sedan with paper dealer plates - another similarity to the second danville case.sunday evening neither police nor costco had announced exactly how much the men made off with.in novato, spencer blake, kron four news. ( james ) now a story you'll only see here on kron4 news... a 33-foot sailing vessel sunk in the middle of the san francisco bay. a viewer sent us this video and said he almost crashed into it. the coast guard says the boat sank saturday and it is about a mile northeast of treasure island. it's not clear why the boat sunk. no one was hurt. the owner of the boat is working with the coast guard and is getting a private salvage company to remove the vessel sometime this week. ( james ) an east bay man is searching for justice after his laptop was stolen while he was sitting at a starbucks.( tiffany ) the robbery happened in alameda. kron four's hermela arwegawi spoke with the victim who says his entire livelihood was on that laptop. gene hamm says he's never been more scared in his life than he was last night. gene hamm/robbery victim: i thought this was it. if he had a weapon i wouldn't be talking to you. just before 9 oclock, a group of teenagers stormed into this starbucks. one of them got very close to hamm and took off down this alley with his macbook pro. gene hamm/robbery victim: made a beeline for me. and another one went past me. so this guy comes right in my face. he's about that close, and just grabs the computer just off knock the drinks off and he's out the door. these guys seem pretty professional they knew what they were doing. they knew where to go., get in, get out. and probably down through the tunnel or on the freeway or some palce. . hamm, who is a professional animator says his life's work was on that computer. now, he says, he has to start over. and that the incident has left him shaken gene hamm/robbery victim: i'm kind of looking at everybody twice. i'm kind of swiveling my head while i wasn't before. hamm is not the only one robbed at this starbucks. a similar incident took place on july 18th. multiple young men ran into the store and stole the laptops of two other victims. we spoke to people who come to the cafe to work.. they say it's generally safe. sherif ismail/cafe patron: i live nearby. this starbucks is good for studying. i come here and try to be productive. i always try to be cautious. of course i'll be using my laptop but i'll try to be more careful after hearing this. (hermela aregawi) starbucks says it's working with police to help catch the suspects. there should be surveillance footage of these incidents.. that's something police are looking into as well. reporting in alameda, hermela aregawi, kron 4 news. ( james ) and this isn't the first time a starbucks was robbed... last weekend we showed you this video where a customer tries to stop an armed robbery at a starbucks in fresno. the robber walked into the starbucks with a knife and a fake gun and demanded money. a customer saw what was going on and picked up a metal chair and hit the man in the back. the two began fighting and the robber stabbed the man in the neck. the man then got the knife away from the robber and stabbed him several times before he fled. police later found the robber and arrested him. both men are doing okay. ( tiffany ) a train used to entertain children at community events in contra costa county was stolen from pleasant hill. the 60- thousand dollar train was going to be used outside the bayview opera house to give kids rides. this is a picture of the train. the company that owns the train regularly takes it to events around the bay area. ( tiffany ) police are warning people in marin county about a phone scam where one person had nearly two-thousand dollars taken from them. that person got a call from someone pretending to be a deputy. the caller said a warrant was out for his arrest because he didn't go to jury duty. the fake deputy said he could avoid arrest by buying a green dot gift card. he was asked to give his credit card information and pin. the victim did this and lost two thousand dollars. people who get this kind of call are asked to hang up. ( tiffany ) one person is dead this morning following a firey crash on 101 in san jose. it's a story we first broke yesterday on kron four news weekend. kron four viewers sent us this video. it shows the smashed cars along the southbound lanes at metcalf road near the p-g&e transmission substation. the accident involving at least 3 cars happened at 6:00 yesterday morning. the c-h-p reports one car caught on fire. the accident backed traffic for a mile. all lanes opened five hours later. ( tiffany ) the driver of a van that plowed into a group of people on a los angeles sidewalk has been arrested. 8 people were injured in the crash. police say the driver drove past a red light yesterday afternoon and hit another car in an intersection. the impact caused the van to swerve onto the sidewalk and hit a group of people. among the victims is a man who suffered severe head injuries and is in critical condition this morning. the seven other victims are expected to recover. ( james ) in national headlines this morning. officials in honolulu found four bodies near the scene of a plane crash. this was the scene at the hawaii country club saturday afternoon. the search and rescue efforts eventually turned into a recovery mission. police say two men and two women died in the crash. the f-a-a confirmed a small beech 19 aircraft left the honolulu airport friday night. that was the last time the plane made contact with air traffic control. police are investigating if drugs and or alcohol played a role in the crash. ( tiffany ) three children are hospitalized after they went swimming at lake wildwood near tahoe national forest.( james ) health officials now say all three children tested positive for e-coli. doug johnson has the story. he's a boy we're told usually loves helicopters and airplanes.but as you can see in this photo... his illness prevented him from enjoying his ride in a medical helicopter saturday afternoon. sara dunn, nephew contracted e coli "he started coming down with symptoms, earlier this week, around monday or tuesday. real upset stomach, digestive issues, blood in his stool."sara dunn is the 3-year-old boy's aunt.the family does not want to release his name.but dunn says her sister, the boy's mother, took him to lake wildwood beach last week where they went swimming near the clubhouse... a place the nevada county public health department now believes exposed him and four others to e. coli.sara dunn, nephew contracted e coli "was taken to sierra nevada tuesday, admitted to icu shortly afterwards. and was admitted to uc davis yesterday because he tested positive for e. coli and it's now affecting his kidneys."the health department says 5 children because very ill... and of those 3 have now tested positive for e. coli. dunn says her nephew knows at least one of the other sick boys... and she believes some adults are also being treated. sara dunn, nephew contracted e coli "they are friends, know each other. so they very well might have been there the same day. but yeah the mother's also pregnant who is also affected, and her son."the health department closed down the beach they were at... after water tested there had high levels of fecal coliforms, bacteria which can cause serious illness.there are wastewater treatment plants near the lake, but the county public works department says it found no leaks, and the system appears to be working normally.lake wildwood is a gated community... when we tried to speak with the administrative offices, a guard at the gate told us to check back tomorrow.dunn feels like both could have done more to prevent this.sara dunn, nephew contracted e coli "alert residents, posting more signs on beaches, maybe caution don't swim."we didn't see any swimmers at the lake today, but many were boating and some were even fishing. meanwhile dunn hopes the community prays for her sister's family.sara dunn, nephew contracted e coli "i can't imagine the pain and stress. they're holding up okay the best they can but it has been hard for all of us." ( james ) russian president vladimir putin says he is slashing the number of workers at the u-s diplomatic missions in russia. putin plans to cut 755 staffers, which includes american and russian nationals. the move is in retaliation to new sanctions on russia that president trump is expected to sign. that legislation sailed through congress with almost no opposition last week. it blocks president trump from easing sanctions against moscow. putin's cuts limit the number of u-s diplomats operating in russia to 455. that's the same number of russian diplomats allowed in the united states. ( james ) breaking news... police have issued a shelter in place in san francisco after reports of shots fired. here is a live shot of the scene. this happened just before midnight in the area of 15th street and beaver.( tiffany ) when officers arrived to the scene, they saw made contact with an armed man. he is refusing to leave his home. police are negoiating with the man. they are asking people who live there to shelter in place and for everyone else to avoid the area. we will continue to follow this story throughout the morning. ( tiffany ) happening now. bart police are invesigating car break-ins at bart. in oakland, cars parked at three bart stations were broken into on friday. here are some of the details... police say two cars were broken into at the rockridge station and a laptop was stolen. police say tools and a car stereo were taken from a car at the fruitvale station. and at the west oakland station, a backpack was taken from a car. ( james ) in berkeley, bullets go right into a home with people inside... and this morning police are still looking for the gunman behind the shooting..( tiffany ) kron four's ella sogomonian was in the neighborhood where it all happened and has details on what police are asking people to do. sot: neighbor// "i don't know if it's getting more common but it is definitely something that happens you hear gunshots in this neighborhood."gun shots rang through an otherwise calm berkeley community monday afternoon around 4:30 as kids played at san pablo park. witnesses reluctant to go on camera say a fight broke possibily at a memorial then a group of young kids made their way down park street toward burnette. this van's window was smashed along the way. sot: neighbor// "about six or seven shots. berkeley police responded i mean within minutes."police say no one was hurt but two homes on burnette were struck by bullets narrowly missing one person inside.sot: neighbor// "it really shook up the block though i can tell you that." a neighbor who's lived here for more than forty years says crime has gone up with several shootings by the park in the last two years and wants the city to step up security.sot: neighbor// "it would be nice if we could have the parks and recreation department willing to meet with us to see if we have any concerns or make us feel safe for everyone who uses the park you know." police are now asking for home owners in the neighborhood to submit surveillence video to help in their search for those responsible. ( james ) police are looking for a man who attacked and tried to rob a man at people's park in berkeley. it happened yesterday morning when the victim was approached by the attacker who tried to take the man's cell phone. the attacker then pulled out a knife and tried to stab the victim. the thief then punched the victim in the face twice and took off. the crook was never caught. the victim suffered deep cuts to his face. ( james ) we're learning new details about a robbery involving the oakland hip hop group called zion-eye. the group posted this video online. they say they were held up at gunpoint in west oakland earlier this month by thieves who stole 90- thousand dollars worth of equipment. they were shooting a music video at the time of the robbery. it's one of a number of bay area robbery's in recent months. the group zion-eye has started a go- fund-me page to pay the high insurance deductable on the camera. they are close to their goal of 75-hundred dollars. ( tiffany ) a san bernardino county sheriff's deputy is one of the two people killed when a small plane crashed into a southern california mountain. the bodies of 28-year-old deputy rebecca joan raymond and an unidentified man were found yesterday morning. search crews located the downed plane in a remote part of big bear mountain. ( james ) police arrested a man for setting fire to a youth l-g-b-t center in phoenix. surveillance video shows a man police identify as 26-year old darren beach setting fire to the building. you can see him pouring flammable liquid inside the building. the center director said the man is a former client of the center and has a mental disability. ( james ) beach began using services at the center in 20-13. he had to leave last year when he turned 25 years old. ( tiffany ) a sacramento lyft driver says she was beaten for refusing a ride.( james ) a large group of people requested the ride, but couldn't fit. that's when the driver say things took a turn for the worst. karma dickerson has the story. nakayla hill says she loves being an lyft driversot- all my passengers would ask you have any scary stories, anything messed up happen, i was like no i got some funny ones.but after 15 months on the job, that changed after she tells us a run in with violent passengers left her beaten, bruised, and bleeding. nats cars just before three thursday morning, nakayla pulled up to the 7700 block of amherst in south sacramento to pick up a fare and found a large group of people waiting. nakayla says as they started to pile into her car she realized there were eight of them, but her car could only safely carry six. she told them only six could ride, they didnút take the news well.sot- 'no f- that, itús your job youúre going to take us'after several minutes of arguing, nakayla tells us she made good on her threat to call 911then things got physical. sot- the gentleman in the front seat started pouring water on me, sot- the guy that said that he requested the lyft came from the back seat and around to the front seat and then started punching me she tells us as many as five people at a time were attacking her. nakyala says she spent eight years in the navy... deployed twice overseas. but sheúd never been through something like this.sot- iúve been through all kinds of situations, this is the first time iúve been scared for my lifethe suspects apparently broke the hinges on one door, but nakayla was able to drive about two blocks away, and call police.nat- karma talking through the door- there was a big group of people called a lyft using this addresswe went back to the address where nakayla told us she picked up the fare. those residents didnút seem to have any idea what had gone on in front of their homenat- no itús not from us.nakayla says she doesnút know if the suspects actually came from that house. at this point she doesnút blame anyone more than herself for not being more vigilant, and she hopes her story can keep other drivers safesot- my complacency kind of helps lead to the situation. itús a learning situation, and i want to share it with other drivers ( james ) and coming up... hot weather hits the bay area. i have what you can expect in the forecast coming up after the break. ( tiffany ) police are looking for two kids that are seen on a snapchat video using a taser on a kitten in florida. we want to warn you that you may find the video disturbing. the teens are seen tasing the kitten, then laughing once it gets zapped. the video was posted on snapchat late last week. people in the area have come forward to police and identified the kids in the video. local animal services say they hope to see them face animal cruelty charges. ( james ) families are getting ready for back to school. and a new bill up for vote next month could let schools start later in the morning. under the new bill, middle schools and high schools will not be allowed to start before 8-30 a-m. supporters of the bill say it will allow kids to get a better night's sleep and improve their school performance. others say it will interfere with the family's schedule saying they may not be able to drop their kid's off at school and make it to work on time. the california senator who sponsored the bill-- says studies show kids are not getting enough sleep and it's harming their health. ( tiffany ) with all the reports of data breaches, hacking, and ransom- ware attacks lately... keeping your digital life secure is more important than ever. ( james ) kron four's tech reporter gabe slate met with one of the biggest p-c manufacturers to learn about new security features they are building into devices. sound from: gabe slate tech reporter: "i'm at hp headquarters in palo alto where they showed me innovative security features that they are building into their computers to help keep people safe"sound from: brandon mcgovern / hp, customer experience "while they're going to coffee shop or on airplane you're always at risk of somebody looking over your shoulder and seeing what's on your screen if there's personal or confidential information on there they can see anything is on there"brandon mcgovern with hp, showed me a new feature they have built into their computers to thwart what they call visual hacking on the keyboard of the notebook is a privacy screen button.. here's what it does.in privacy mode if you are right in front of the computer screen you will see it as normal if you move out of that sweet spot. so someone standing to your side or over your shoulder.they won't be able to see your screen clearly. it adds like a white wash a blur affect another new security feature they are adding into laptops and desktops is face unlocking the built in camera scans your face and if it's you it unlocks the computer. also saves you some time from typing a password in.. and here's a security feature if you forget to lock your computer when walking away at work or in a public place you can tie the lock unlock to your phone. so brandon here walks away from the computer with his phone. the computer knows that brandon's phone has walked away so it then automatically locks once the phone gets back next to the computer.. it will log in and while the user is away with their phone they will be alerted if someone tries to log into their device or tamper with it. one last thing. we've all heard about how cyber security experts advise you to put tape over the webcam in your computer so that hackers can't spy on you well hardware makers are now considering that when designing.. here's an example of desktop with a webcam that can be shelved for privacy brandon says this is just the beginning the hardware makers are going to continue to beef up their gadgets to keep up with the threats from cyber criminals. with your tech report gabe slate kron 4 news. ( will )at approximately 11:45pm police received calls regarding shots fired in the area of 15th st and beaver. units responded to the scene and found evidence thats gun shots were fired. units made contact with a male who we suspect is armed but he refused to exit his residence. at this time police are negotiating with the suspect. we are requesting for residents to shelter in place and to avoid the area until the scene is secure. ( tiffany ) happening now. bart police are investigating several car break ins at bart stations. in oakland, cars parked at three bart stations were broken into. police say two cars were hit at the rockridge station. a laptop was stolen from one of those cars. police also say that tools and a car stereo were taken from a car at the fruitvale station. and at the west oakland station, a backpack was taken out of a car. ( tiffany ) police are looking for a man who attacked and tried to rob a man at people's park in berkeley. it happened yesterday morning when the victim was approached by the attacker who tried to take the man's cell phone. the attacker then pulled out a knife and tried to stab the victim. the thief then punched the victim in the face twice and took off. the crook was never caught. the victim suffered deep cuts to his ( mark ) police are looking for three men who robbed a costco in novato. this is the third smash- and-grab robbery at a bay area costco in the past three months. it happened yesterday morning when three robbers who were wearing surgical masks went directly to the jewelry display cases. the robbers used a hammer to smash the glass cases and stole numerous pieces of jewelry. they got away in a car that was waiting for them. similar robberies also happened at a costco in danville and foster city. ( mark ) the first incident in danville happened in may. the second robbery happened in june in foster city and the robbers fired a gun into the air. police say the robbers drove off in a sedan with paper dealer plates which is also similar to the robbery in danville. ( tiffany ) a man at an alameda starbucks had his laptop ripped out of his hands by a group of teenagers. the teens have not been caught. it happened saturday night at the starbucks on atlantic avenue. the man says one of the teens knocked over his drink, grabbed his macbook pro and ran down an alley. the man is a professional animator and says his life's work is on that computer. he says the incident has left him shaken. and probably down through the tunnel or on the freeway or some place.i'm kind of looking at everybody twice. i'm kind of swiveling my head while i wasn't before.">( tiffany ) a similar incident happened at that starbucks earlier this month. multiple young men ran into the store and stole laptops. starbucks says it's working with police to help catch the robbers. ( mark ) happening now... fremont police are asking for help finding a man who has been missing for nearly 3 weeks. 32-year-old-paul gonzalez was last seen on july 11th in hayward. police releasing these pictures overnight. police say he is about 6 feet tall 200 pounds. he has short brown hair and green eyes. ( mark ) police are warning people in marin county about a phone scam where one person had nearly two-thousand dollars taken from them. that person got a call from someone pretending to be a deputy. the caller said a warrant was out for his arrest because he didn't go to jury duty. the fake deputy told the victim that he could avoid arrest by buying a green dot gift card. he was asked to give his credit card information and pin number. people who get this kind of call are asked to hang up. ( tiffany ) russian president vladimir putin says he is slashing the number of workers allowed at the u-s diplomatic missions in russia. putin says the u.s. has to cut 755 staffers. the move is in retaliation to new sanctions on russia that president trump is expected to sign. that legislation sailed through congress with almost no opposition last week. the sanctions are in retaliation for russia's interference in the presidential election and their annexation of crimea. the bill blocks president trump from easing sanctions against moscow. putin's cuts limit the number of u-s diplomats operating in russia to 455. ( tiffany ) several kids are hospitalized after they went swimming in a lake near the tahoe national forest. it happened at lake wildwood near grass valley last week. health officials say three of the children tested positive for e-coli. two other kids and a pregnant woman have also been hospitalized after swimming in the lake. the health department has closed down the beach after the water tested had high levels of bacteria. there are wastewater treatment plants near the lake, but no leaks were found. ( tiffany ) one u-s city is taking new steps to protect pedestrians. the mayor of honolulu signed a bill making it illegal for pedestrians to look at electronic devices while crossing the street.( mark ) police in that city say they are seeing a spike in people being hit while in crosswalks. police say people in that city will still be able to talk on the phone as long as they are not looking down. ( mark ) families are getting ready for back to school... and a new bill up for vote next month... could make california schools start later in the morning. under the new bill-- middle schools and high schools will not be allowed to start before 8-30. supporters of the bill say it will allow kids to get a better night's sleep and improve their school performance. others say it will interfere with the family's schedule... some parents say they may not be able to drop their kid's off at school and make it to work on time. ( tiffany ) one person has died following a crash on highway 101 in san jose. kron four viewers sent us this video. it shows the smashed cars along the southbound lanes at metcalf road near the p-g&e transmission substation. the accident involving at least 3 cars happened yesterday morning. the name of the victim has not yet been released. ( tiffany ) the driver of a van that plowed into a group of people on a los angeles sidewalk has been arrested. 8 people were injured in the crash. police say the driver drove past a red light yesterday afternoon and hit another car in an intersection. the impact caused the van to swerve onto the sidewalk and hit a group of people. among the victims is a man who suffered severe head injuries and is in critical condition this morning. the seven other victims are expected to recover. ( mark ) a san bernardino county sheriff's deputy is one of the two people killed when a small plane crashed into a southern california mountain. the bodies of 28-year-old deputy rebecca joan raymond and an unidentified man were found yesterday morning. search crews located the downed plane in a remote part of big bear mountain. ( mark ) protesters gather across the country to protest president trump's efforts to repeal the affordable care act. this is what it looked like in sacramento yesterday. protesters say they are worried about people with medicaid losing their coverage. the white house is insisting that the senate re- start its efforts to repeal obamacare. last week senators failed to pass a bill that would have repealed key parts of the affordable care act. the president wants republican senators to put off voting on any other bill until there is another vote on health care. ( tiffany ) happening now... police in australia are searching the homes of suspected terrorists connected to a plot to bring down an airplane. this is video of those searches this morning. four men were arrested during a terrorism raid in sydney over the weekend. police say the group was planning to bomb a plane using an "improvised device". police searched several houses before an explosives team found a suspicious device. officials say they were able to foil the terror plot before the men could get to an airport. ( mark ) violence breaks out in venezuela as president trump considers new sanctions against the country. protesters attacked national guardsmen as they patrolled the streets yesterday. the people of venezuela voted yesterday to give their president the power to re- write their constitution. more than 125 people have been killed during unrest in venezuela over the past few months. president trump could announce new sanctions against venezuela as early as today. ( mark ) firefighters making major progress over the weekend battling the detwiler fire burning near yosemite. that fire is now 90 percent contained. it has burned more than 81-thousand acres. more than 60 homes have been destroyed. and all evacuation orders have been lifted. firefighters are still trying to figure out what started the fire. (mark) police are searching for the gunmen who fired several gun shots into two homes in berkeley. the shooting happened monday afternoon near san pablo park but we are just learning about it this morning. a large group of teens shot into two homes from their car while driving down burnett street. they narrowly missed one person inside. now, people living nearby are calling for action after several shootings near the park within the last two years. need more police patrol out here. they don't ever patrol unless they're called out here. and i just think with the way things have been in the last years they need to be more seen.">(mark) witnesses believe it was an isolated incident that came from an argument at a memorial at san pablo park. police are now asking homeowners to come forward with any surveillance footage of the shooters. ( tiffany ) happening now... fremont police are asking for help finding a man who has been missing for nearly 3 weeks. 32-year-old-paul gonzalez was last seen on july 11th in hayward. police releasing these pictures overnight. police say he is about 6 feet tall 200 pounds. he has short brown hair and green eyes. (tiffany) a train used to entertain children at community events in contra costa county was stolen from pleasant hill. the 60- thousand dollar train was going to be used outside the bayview opera house to give kids rides. this is a picture of the train. the company that owns the train regularly takes it to events around the bay area. ( mark ) police are warning people in marin county about a phone scam where one person had nearly two-thousand dollars taken from them. that person got a call from someone pretending to be a deputy. the caller said a warrant was out for his arrest because he didn't go to jury duty. the fake deputy told the victim that he could avoid arrest by buying a green dot gift card. he was asked to give his credit card information and pin number. people who get this kind of call are asked to hang up. (mark) russian president vladimir putin says he is slashing the number of workers allowed at the u-s diplomatic missions in russia. putin says the u.s. has to cut 755 staffers. the move is in retaliation to new sanctions on russia that president trump is expected to sign. that legislation sailed through congress with almost no opposition last week. the sanctions are in retaliation for russia's interference in the presidential election and their annexation of crimea. the bill blocks president trump from easing sanctions against moscow. putin's cuts limit the number of u-s diplomats operating in russia to 455. (tiffany) the new white house chief of staff starts today. retired general and homeland security secretary john kelly will take over the position. this comes after former chief of staff reince priebus resigned on friday. priebus says he resigned on good terms and will continue to support the president. (tiffany @ land) we're getting our first look this morning at a dramatic escape attempt from a new mexico jail. damian herrera, accused of killing five people last month -- had already attempted to escape from jail once. this time -- he locked a guard in his cell. he then grabbed a flashlight from underneath the guard station and waited in ambush for another guard. a fight ensued -- but herrera was eventually overpowered. he is expected to be transfered to state prison in santa fe by the end of the week. (mark) we're learning new details about a robbery involving the oakland hip hop group called zion-eye. the group posted this video online. they say they were held up at gunpoint in west oakland earlier this month by thieves who stole 90- thousand dollars worth of equipment. they were shooting a music video at the time of the robbery. people in the video were wearing masks of former presidents when they were robbed. (mark) a proposed new senate billl would require carmakers to build alarms for back seats to prevent kids from dying in hot cars. this comes after two baby boys died in a hot cars in arizona over the weekend. the law would require cars to be equipped with technology that can alert drivers if a child is left in the back seat once the car is turned off. it would also speed up the criminal process against caregivers who cause the deaths. more than two dozen child and road safety groups are backing the u-s senate bill. (mark) several kids are hospitalized after they went swimming in a lake near the tahoe national forest. it happened at lake wildwood near grass valley last week. health officials say three of the children tested positive for e-coli. two other kids and a pregnant woman have also been hospitalized after swimming in the lake. the health department has closed down the beach after the water tested had high levels of bacteria. there are wastewater treatment plants near the lake, but no leaks were found. (tiffany) rides shut down at the ohio state fair after a ride broke apart killing a man are back open this morning. an 18-year-old man was killed and seven otehrs were injured after the ride broke apart last wednesday. the manufacturer of the "fire ball" ride shutdown similar rides worldwide, including multiple rides in california. a co-owner of the company providing rides at the fair says he is certain a mechanical failure caused the ride to break apart. the family of the man killed has hired an attorney to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. (tiffany) actress angelina jolie is fighting back against a report that her upcoming film was abusive and cruel to children. jolie co- wrote and directed "first they killed my father," based on a memoir about the cambodian genocide. according to a vanity fair story, casting directors put money in front of poor children, then took it away to provoke reactions. in a statement, jolie calls the claim "false and upsetting." she says the children were aware of what they were going to do. jolie added that parents, guardians and doctors were on the set daily to monitor the children. (mark) the u-s conducted a successful test of its missile-defense system over the pacific ocean. here is video of the test yesterday. it was planned prior to north korea's test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile on friday. the air force launched a ballistic missile over the pacific that was detected and intercepted by the "terminal high altitude area defense," or thaad. this was the 15th successful intercept in 15 tests for the thaad weapon system. (mark) the trump administration's travel ban has left dozens of refugee children in limbo. over 100 orphans already matched to foster families in the united states are now stranded overseas. the july 19th supreme court decision to uphold the ban has halted a three-decade-old u-s program for unaccompanied refugee minors. since 19-80, the program has brought over 6- thousand refugee children to the u-s. (tiffany) 22-thousand people were evacuated after a fire broke out on stage in barcelona. this happeend saturday night at the "tomorrowland" music festival. according to the concert's website, the fire was caused by a technical malfunction. the popular event takes place in multiple places at once --- with the main stage in belgium. about 20 people were treated for minor injiries. (tiffany) a 33-foot sail boat sinks in the middle of the san francisco bay. a viewer sent us this video and said he almost crashed into it. the coast guard says the boat sank saturday and is about a mile northeast of treasure island. no one was hurt. the owner of the boat is working with the coast guard to remove the boat sometime this week. (mark) an airport worker hit a man holding a baby at a french airport. the victim was scheduled to fly out of nice on saturday, but the easyjet flight was delayed for 11 hours.(tiffany) a bystander held down the attacker until police arrived. the man with the baby was removed from the scene but was on his plane when it was time to take off.(mark) officials with easyjet say the attacker was not an airline employee. the airline issued an apology saying the flight was held up because of a technical issue. ( mark ) a plane headed to oakland had to abort its take off because a passenger was naked. ( tiffany ) the spirit airlines plane was headed to oakland from las vegas. airline officials say a man boarding the plane took off all of his clothes and approached a flight attendant.( mark ) police took the passenger into custody. the plane was able to take off about 30 minutes later. (mark) the driver of a van that plowed into a group of people on a los angeles sidewalk has been arrested. 8 people were injured in the crash. police say the driver drove past a red light yesterday afternoon and hit another car in an intersection. the impact caused the van to swerve onto the sidewalk and hit a group of people. among the victims is a man who suffered severe head injuries and is in critical condition this morning. the seven other victims are expected to recover. (mark) a san bernardino county sheriff's deputy is one of the two people killed when a small plane crashed into a southern california mountain. the bodies of 28-year-old deputy rebecca joan raymond and an unidentified man were found yesterday morning. search crews located the downed plane in a remote part of big bear mountain. (tiffany) protesters gather across the country to protest president trump's efforts to repeal the affordable care act. this is what it looked like in sacramento yesterday. protesters say they are worried about people with medicaid losing their coverage. the white house is insisting that the senate re- start its efforts to repeal obamacare. last week senators failed to pass a bill that would have repealed key parts of the affordable care act. the president wants republican senators to put off voting on any other bill until there is another vote on health care. (tiffany) happening today. president trump will meet with attorney general jeff sessions just days after criticizing him about his job performance. sessions will be at the white house for a cabinet meeting. this is the first face-to-face meeting since the president began criticizing sessions on twitter for his recusal from the russia investigation. the president has also criticized sessions for not being tougher on leaks coming out of the intelligence community. president trump has not said whether he wants sessions fired. sessions has called the president's comments 'hurtful,' but say he plans to stay on the job. (tiffany) the driver was able to get away and call police. she did not suffer any major injuries. (mark) firefighters making major progress over the weekend battling the detwiler fire burning near yosemite. that fire is now 90 percent contained. it has burned more than 81-thousand acres. more than 60 homes have been destroyed. and all evacuation orders have been lifted. firefighters are still trying to figure out what started the fire. ( mark ) a major jailbreak overnight in alabama. a dozen inmates escaped. police were able to capture 10 of the 12 inmates who escaped. these are pictures of some of the inmates who were captured overnight. one of the men still on the loose this morning was serving time for attempted murder. prison officials have not said how the men were able to escape. ( tiffany @ land ) one u-s city is taking new steps to protect pedestrians. the mayor of honolulu signed a bill making it illegal for pedestrians to look at electronic devices while crossing the street. police in that city say they are seeing a spike in people being hit while in crosswalks. police say people in that city will still be able to talk on the phone as long as they are not looking down. (tiffany @ land) we are learning about more benefits of sticking to a mediterranean diet. doctors now say it can lower your risk of dementia. doctors say older people can lower their risk of alzheimer's by a third.just by following the meditteranean or a similar diet. the mediterranean diet focuses on plant based cooking. the majority of meals have fruits, vegetables, whole grains and olive oil. meat is rarely used. the diet has also been linked to stronger bones, a healthier heart and a longer life. (mark) new jersey governor chris christie confronts a heckler at a baseball game. christie was at the game between the milwaukee brewers and chicago cubs because his son works for the brewers. as christie was walking up the stairs cubs fan brad joseph says he decided to confront the governor. another fan recorded the end of the confrontation. joseph explains what happened. says christie yelled at him for about 30-seconds. he initially thought the christie was joking until the governor called him a "big shot" and walked away. this isn't the first time the governor has had a problem at a baseball game recently. he was booed by fans a couple of weeks ago after catching a foul ball at a game between the saint louis cardinals and new york mets.
