The lake was restored at a cost of Rs 23 crore. However, a few years down the line, the water body once again got contaminated due to the inflow of sewage.
Born in 1974, Balaji Raghotham grew up in K R Puram and learnt swimming in some of these lakes. In 1992, he started plantation activities around the lakes.
The residents pointed out that despite the lake being restored a few years ago and even though a sewage treatment plant exists, the lake’s water quality is still deteriorating which is leading to fish kill incidents. In the last three months, the lake has been falling under class E, from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board water quality analysis report. The Class E is designated for the use of irrigation, industrial cooling and controlled waste.
