the pilot was already shoaling signs of hypothermia. and when i talked to the pilot he said it was heartbreaking to see them go down. reporter: david lash said he was trying his new plane whether a friends was unlikelying next to him whether the beach craft los power and it landed in the ocean. there was jelly fish and whales breaching around us. reporter: lash said he and his female friend had about 30 seconds to get his flotation devices and car keys before his plane sank into the ocean. for the next 40 to 40 minutes they were floating in the water. his friend flying above him called for help. i had been circling him and then i lost sight of them and for about ten minutes i couldn t see them. reporter: the coast guard spotted the two people and were able to send a rescue swimmer down to try and rescue them and pum them up in a basket. luckily everything worked out and we were able to get them within 25 hours. we re were happy that it was a happy ending. i wo
