Rain picking up everywhere so it could be a very messy commute ride on the way home. Here it is on our satellite and radar image. You can see a lot of that energy headed up into the far northern california. Still, we are waiting for the brunt of the storm system really on the back side here thats going to be sliding down into the bay area later on today. So it will be picking up throughout the day. So if you are heading out, it hasnt rained in your neighborhood yet, it will. Bring that umbrella and jacket you will need it today. Any chance this storm is going to do much for the reservoirs . Not much. Reporter its been dry here for most of the evening hours so we are waiting for the rain to come south as paul referenced. A lot of people are calling this is opening act for the storms season and so far it hasnt been that impressive. Water districts in the bay area say we need 8 of rain to cause runoff and runoff especially in the north bay is critical. They get the majority if not all of their water from rainfall and runoff not from snowpack and snow melt. The snow melt in ukiah was at a 100 year low so the storm doesnt change that right now. It reminds us to turn off our garden hose or sprinklers and think about conservation. Ying well get much out of this storm i dont think well get much of the storm out of this system to make much of a difference. The amount of rain falling now is going to soak into the ground. The bay area today and meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is tracking the wet weather. Yeah. Great to see the raindrops falling around the bay area. Most of that confined north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Thats where we have seen the showers almost. 10 of rain so far but plenty more to come. Our hidef Doppler Radar is tracking the storm system as it slides through. Lets go in for a closer look. You can see moderate rainfall toward this part of the north bay. Sonoma along 116 you are seeing good rainfall there right now. More is moving in off the coastline. So its going to stay unsettled throughout the day likely to pick up into the middle of the day and then spread to the south as we head in toward the afternoon.
