tyree garland shot a firefighter this morning. they knew the manthey wanted could be armed. 38-year-old tyree garland, a convicted felon with 18 prior arrests was wanted for a federal probation violation. it seems garland knew the marshals were coming to he set a fire as a diversion. there was smoke billowing from inside the apartment. they immediately retracted, stepped back and called fdny. fdny responded. reporter: as firefighters approached, garr labeled opened fire with a possible ak-47. james hayes was shot twice. once through the right calf. the lieutenant is in stable condition in the hospital. reporter: as police set up a perimeter around the house, garland opened fire again. during the course of this investigation, he fired a total of four times at police. the fireman. reporter: garland barricaded himself inside the house and for a while stopped communicating with police but he was talking on facebook, posting today i die. and when a friend asked what wa
